not sure if this is the correct place for this but here goes.

what is the politest way to say 'no i won't release my information to you from another doctor', even if you are asking for the medical records?!

my one doctor asked me for my medical records from another doctor/facility. and it was a good thing it was a voicemail message, cuz my gut would've said 'H*** NO'!

i don't care if you want my records. there's no way i want my medical records from doctor/facility 'A' in the system at doctor/facility 'B'. and there's no way in h*** that i will allow my medical records from doctor/facility 'B' to end up in the system at doctor/facility 'A'!!!!!!
-> there's a reason why i didn't tell you the names of the doctor or facility!

[after a recent 'incident', i'm gonna start cracking down hard on this! am even drafting a mock-reverse-ROI form to sign, saying my records will NOT leave this facility]

am i being too much of an a$* to say absolutely no ROI, but i can get you what you are looking for - probably an edited version though?!?!

what would you do or say? or how would you handle the request?? thanks

-> ps - these are non-life-threatening records, so there's no 'outside-safety' to consider

Yeah, it's a tricky one and it'd probably depend on why you don't want to share your records with the new doctor but I'd probably say something like, "Sorry, but with all due respect, I'd rather not share those records because I didn't trust Doctor X's evaluation of my symptoms, etc." Because that's the only reason I can think of, at present, why I'd not want to share records. But just say whatever it is in a respectful way with no recrimination's or abusive language.

It definitely depends on why you do not want them released.

Unless I was trying to hide something I would look upon sharing my records as something done to help me.

I actually request a copy of my records first to see what they really say....it can be interesting because MD's sure don't see things the way we do & the way we experience it.

I would just say "No. It has nothing to do with my treatment here."

I am contemplating taking action against a doctor who shared information with a nurse at an unrelated clinic without my permission. I'm mad as hell about it.

you are exactly right! things get 'lost in translation/interpretation' ALL the time.

one time after reading a 'visit summary report', i tried to 'correct' a few things and most were denied cuz the doctor felt they were accurate!

i say go for it!

if i could or had more courage to, i just might! i had a physician send a referral order & info to a different clinic without my permission or knowledge! man was i blind-sided when the other clinic called me to set up the appt!
i was so pissed, i took a 'several months break' from this physician. (only went back cuz i live in a rural area and the options are few)

to protect myself now, i myself do not mention medical providers by name to others -> it's just a vague him or her or they/them!

Because I've had to move frequently I've had my records transferred several times. I can only think it would be beneficial to a new psychiatrist to be aware of my past treatment history.

They are YOUR records, pertaining to only you. You have a right to them.
