Does anyone here ever worry about whether your life is meaningful?

Thank you for this thread, @annoyedgrunt84. A meaningful life to me is one that strives for & experiences the things that really matter to us, things we personally value highly. I have very fortunately been one of those lucky people who has been allowed to fulfill some dreams that mattered a great deal to me. I am always grateful for these meaningful parts of my life, & continue to cherish these memories. And by the way, being here at the Forums is a very meaningful experience for me. Anyway, thank you for being a deep thinker & asking a question like this!

I prefer to think of it as fulfilling or unfulfilling. I don’t understand why meaningful is the word people typically say. Does life have meaning? Be fruitful and multiply. I suppose that’s man’s purpose.
I do feel unfulfilled in some ways because I wanted to, but did not do those things that would meet my potential. But, I felt having children was most fulfilling for me and that perhaps having them fulfilled my purpose. I don’t worry about it. I just feel bad that I checked out of life in some ways. I did it mostly because I’m just lazy. If I had wanted to bad enough, I would have done those things. I suppose, I could still do things I feel I wanted to do even now. It’s never too late. __________________ "And don't say it hasn't been a little slice of heaven, 'cause it hasn't!" . About Me--T |

i'd say that each individual constructs their own meaning in their Lives so part of our existence is finding out what it is and do what we can to achieve it, of course always by respecting other people. i personally do worry about it a little bit because i can't seem to find anything but i am not sure if i'd call it "Meaning". Please never give up. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to ALL of you, @annoyedgrunt84, your Families, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

I worried about things such as this when I was younger. But now that I'm old it just doesn't matter anymore. In fact, to some extent, I'm glad my life has no meaning because it makes it easier to be the old recluse I have become. There's nothing I have to live up to... either for myself or for anyone else either.

I’m just going through one of my phases where I worry non-stop that I will never do some of the things I always wanted to do.

If One feels life is meaningless, that usually indicates depression.

I do feel my life is unfulfilling in some ways right now - mainly, my job is the issue. I want better for myself but finding it hard to get out of the rut I’m in (or have been in for 20 years... it’s embarrassing!). Boss/colleagues are great, it’s just the work I can’t handle very well.
I do find fulfilment in crafts, mainly knitting and more recently crochet, though. I’m working on some patterns of my own to publish and hopefully sell. It’s just taking me a long time to get stuff finished to the point I can write it up properly. |
