Usually therapy can be helpful. Meds can also provide some help if well dosed. i'd suggest contacting someone if you haven't already. Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @princesscookie19, your Family, your Friends, your boyfriend and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

I’m not a medical doctor so take what I say with a grain of salt. It also depends upon how severe the depression is. Usually psychotherapy is the first resort. That may or may not be combined with medication, if the depression does not respond then more advanced treatment may be used, for instance ECT.

I was kind of in a hurry when I wrote this so I wanted to add there are also lots of alternative treatments for depression as well. As Andrew Solomon said “Depression is an illness of how you feel... so if you say standing on your head for twenty minutes every morning makes you feel better then you are effectively no longer depressed.” Some people get benefits out of meditation and mindfulness practices. Regular exercise may provide benefits for some people but that is often contingent on just how bad depression is.

I have treatment resistant depression as well as bipolar. The only thing that works for me is ketamine infusions along with lithium, but my case is extreme.

Hi, princesscookie!! The thing that has helped me the most is "cognitive behavioral therapy." If you google those words on the internet, you'll find lots of information about it. Maybe you can teach yourself the principles without using a therapist. I hope you are able to find what you need. Take care, dear friend.

Dear @princesscookie19, Yes, I think a nice hobby could help. I have a friend who recently has collected (ordering through the internet) a whole bunch of "care bears". You know those sweet, caring, colorful bears? And she says they give her a lot of comfort during hard times. I have one of the Care Bear movies. It's really sweet. Can you google "care bears" & take a look? They are adorable!

Anything that distracts the mind from depressive thoughts could be helpful.
