Growing up I would always be known as shy and a bit weird. I could not stand tags in my clothes, hated food touching other foods, couldn't wear certain clothes because the fabric made me uncomfortable. I also struggle in social situations, have a hard time handling emotions hate to be hugged and hate having small talk. I hate change and would rather stick a routine and I really hate going out I would rather be alone. Sometimes I don't get the point of what someone is saying and at times don't respond to what someone has told me to do.

How much is this affecting your day to day life? If it’s causing you a lot of problems with your day to day life or causing you great distress you should go in and talk to a professional.

i can relate to what you're writing. i agree with the other wise and wonderful posters about contacting a professional if you feel like it is necessary and/or want to find out more. We can't diagnose here. Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @Maple21, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?! .grouphug:

Tags suck. I actually just cut off one of mine yesterday from a shirt because it was bothering me. I remember in 1st or maybe it was 3rd grade a tag was driving the **** out of me and I kept reaching behind and yanking at it. I finally asked a girl if she’d cut it off for me with a pair of safety scissors and she freaked out and said “no!” I was diagnosed when I was 15. It wasn’t put on paper until a few years ago.
I don’t think it’s that big of a deal for me but when I mentioned that I had autism to my new clinic in 2018 they freaked out and now the only people who will work with me are people who specialize in autism. I don’t really get it since my main issue is anxiety. __________________ Ridin' with Biden |

Do you have any weird sensory issues? I have a really strange one and my therapist is the only one that knows and she’s just like “whatever. It’s a calming sensory thing.”

If it's any consolation, I can totally relate to what you're going through, even though I don't have this diagnosis; I have Bipolar I with Depression.
Have you talked to a therapist / clinician to get an official diagnosis, and figure out an appropriate plan to manage this? That might help. __________________ Diagnosis: Bipolar I w/ Depression Medications: Lamictal Lyrica ECT - once / month |

I can relate to some of what you wrote in your original post, particularly wanting to be alone and not liking small talk (also was the “shy/weird” kid at school).
I was diagnosed at 17, by a psychiatrist my mum took me to see and I had no idea why she did so. I think your best bet is to see a professional if you can, and ask their opinion. The autism self tests can also provide an indication, if you haven’t already done one. |
