When I was 17 in a treatment center I mentioned wanting something weird and instead of being understanding my therapist said that if I asked for it again I'd be put at a table and every time I'd go towards it (as if I couldn't control myself or some ****) I'd be electrically shocked each time.
I am not kidding. This conversation happened. I've mentioned this stuff before and after to therapists and to my mom and they were just like "whatever. Its just a sensory thing. Just part of your autism." But this therapist freaked out. Is this a real form of treatment?

Getting people electrically shocked is illegal and most certainly not real treatment.

Sounds like you definitely needed a new therapist

Is this for real?
If so, this approach stems from behavioral therapy i.e. aimed to change someone's unhealthy (or so-called 'dysfunctional') behaviors. In the instance you describe, it's a conditioning based on positive punishment. |

Unfortunately there is a place near me that uses shock to "control" patients. Its being investigated by the state. As I understand it, they only use it for extremely self mutilating patients...but still....😓
