I was wondering if anyone here is eating a ketogenic diet to help manage their mental illness. There is research that supports it can help.

Personally, I have been keto for over two months now and it's helped clear out the fog in my head from my antipsychotic medication.

A relative is on a ketogenic diet to address Crohn's Disease and is experiencing success.

If I may ask, are you tracking your ketone levels? How long were you on the diet before experiencing the mental clearing?

Thank you.

I am on Keto and fasting as well. For me Keto really helps with depression. There is a very good book called "Ketosis" the fourth fuel" that really goes into the facts and science on Ketosis (hint studies were only done in the 1990s because the military saw potential for its special forces) and there is serous evidence out there that it helps the brain in general by providing energy that you don't get when you are just using glucose.

I think I am probably going to be keto for life.

I was on keto for a month and the extra weight melted right off me. My son is always on it for weight. For some reason he gains weight too easily if eating regular. My friend is on it to manage cancer.

There are strips you can pee on that tell you the level of ketosis u r in .

If it helps with mental health it’s another great reason for me to do it again. I’m inspired!

It can do harm to your kidneys, though, so be careful and consult a doctor.

I don't think that it can. There are a lot of rumors about but it has never been born out.

Some people do carnivore (only eat red meat all day) and find amazing health benefits. This is likely because of the amino acids in meat and the ketosis. That is just a step too far for me...

I'm tracking my ketones with both strips and blood tests.

The mental clarity happened in a matter of days and has gotten progressively better.

I am also doing fasting and am probably keto for life, too. At the very least it makes it so easy to eat healthy.

I was on keto a couple years ago and I got keto flu and got really sick from it. I don’t think I was doing it right though. I think I was eating too much protein.
