I haven’t been the same mentally since my surgery on the 4th. Before I was fine. A day later I felt off and I haven’t been the same since. I’m very happy with the results but I feel like something about the surgery messed with my mind. I know I’ve also just moved 1.5 months ago, and I’m also in the process of changing therapists. But I just feel weird and I can’t shake this feeling no matter what I do to try to fix things.

Just FYI, anesthetics they use for surgery stay in your body for up to 6 months & for me, that was usually what would bother me most after surgeries. I am not one to ever cry & every time I came to after surgery in the recovery room I would burst out in tears. Same thing happened after my 2 1/2 hour oral surgery. Strangest reaction.

I don’t even remember anything until an hour after I was in surgery recovery and a nurse was talking to me. After my first surgery I was aware and could hear people talking to me as soon as they woke me up. During this last one I was in a heating tent so I assume I had gotten very cold. I hope I didn’t say anything goofy that I was unaware of.

The first one I felt this same way. And it was a good few months until I returned to my normal self.

I’ve heard it can be the anesthesia but I also thought I read that the pain meds can mess with your mind too. I was taking more opiates the second time then the first time. I’m not sure if that’s true or not.

My reaction starts immediately on coming out of the anesthetic.....from my understanding, anesthetics are controlled opiates which is why most pain specialists have been anesthesiologists first.

So many different reactions to pain meds & to anesthetics. Guess you know if the feeling goes away when you stop taking pain meds than you know the cause. If the feeling remains & wears off over a longer time then you will know it is your bodies reaction to the anesthetic. I learn from my analyzing my personal experiences & asking knowledgable people questions & sometimes just researching reactions

I’m going to talk to my doctor whenever he calls and ask if taking longer to come out of anesthesia is making things worse then if I had come out of it more easily. I don’t even know. Maybe I did come out of it easily and I just don’t remember it

My PA said that the pain from the type of surgery I had can last up to 6 months. No wonder people get hooked on pain pills. But he didn’t refill my muscle relaxers. He suggested Advil. I’m not allowed to take Advil because of kidney issues but it does work better then opiates and muscle relaxers in my opinion.

And now I need to get another surgery just for my own safety and mental health. I wonder how that one will go.
