What exactly does feeling empty feel like? I’m wondering if other people who struggle with “feelings of emptiness” can describe what that feels like to them. I think this may be the best description of how I have been feeling for awhile now, and may describe feelings I have had off and on at least throughout my life, but I need something to compare it to.

I have wondered this, too. I've never found an understandable answer.

It feels like a constant sense of not getting what you most wanted and still wanting more and you try everything else and you just feel nothing but more dissatisfaction.

I experience it as a greyness, a depression with no real thoughts about anything. A mental tiredness, depletion, with a feeling of alienation from everything.

I also recently discovered the term alexithymia, I wonder if it might even better describe my feelings, or lack there of. I’m gonna try to start reading novels and literature again.

So Sorry for everyone whom is feeling like this also! Please Do not give up! Hugs. i am not sure if i'd call myself empty but sometimes that's what i'd use for describing my feelings mostly. i don't mean to encourage self-diagnosis but sometimes i wonder if i do suffer even slightly from anhedonia. m. i'd say it feels like living without seemingly having much purpose. Of course i think we all do have a purpose but it can be hard to figure it out sometimes unfortunately. i believe picking up reading and more hobbies in general may be a good idea. i hope things will improve really soon for everyone. Love. m. Be Kind. Be Generous. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @annoyedgrunt84, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

Emptiness is a feeling of not feeling valued or not feeling anything. I used to feel emptiness while struggling so hard to deal with my illness. Now I feel vindicated and as if I am a survivor because I went through so many setbacks and learned from them. I am happy now. Life is a journey, not a destination. What you feel now may not be how you feel tomorrow. So, strive and hope for the best! And, please remember to appreciate life and those around you who have helped you in your journey. I have learned to say thank you and show my gratitude for even small acts of kindness towards me. I think because of this I really appreciate what I have now and how far I have come. Feeling appreciated and feeling thankful can lead to happiness in one's life. I would not let your feelings of emptiness now be a barometer of how you will feel in the future. Make positive changes in the present to help you have a fulfilling life! Blessings!
