Anyone hear about this women and her disturbing mother? I don’t think Gypsy should have gone to jail. I thought the story happened in the 80’s but it happened recently. I must have been hearing the actual events as they were happening on the news a few years ago. I thought it was some dateline 20/20 thing. Gypsy Rose is only a couple years older then me.

Her story is extreme but I know people who “diagnose” their kids or insisted on getting them a “diagnosis” and subjected them to huge number of treatments for non existent illnesses. It’s deeply disturbing to say the least
Thanks for this!

My mom was kind of the opposite and wouldn’t take me to the doctor when I needed to go. If I had an actual record of having certain things I think I’d have been taken much more seriously as a teenager.

There's a documentary too, with interviews with Gypsy, called Mommy Dead and Dearest.

It's really incredible the abuse she suffered, but also very sad because she was raised to be manipulative and dishonest. I've followed the story and updates from her father for some time, and her father and stepmom have reported that she has similar manipulative behaviors as her mother, Dee Dee, but what else would she have learned?

It's so sad, but you can essentially look at her and see how a potential predator is created. It's through no fault of her own. She behaves as she was brought up to.
