Hi.

I don't know where to post after looking at the subjects. I am in a difficult situation. I am on psych meds with crippling disabling side effects for a long time. Because of the side effects, I can't function normally. Ive begged my doctor and parents to taper gradually but they wont listen. Im an adult with no money and realistically cant move out. Family is toxic. People taking advantage of me. Is there anything legal wise I can do?

Hi fffw, and welcome to MSF👋👋

My gosh, it's a very disheartening distressing situation you find yourself in there. Stay positive and hopeful the best you can please, because in such times I always tell myself it can't get worse really, so therefore it may probably get better (or stay the same, but the fact you're taking positive action must mean it'll get better!)

I don't live in Michigan or USA friend, but the first course of action I felt might be necessary is for you to talk to your doctor again, but this time express with your true feelings of despair and worry, desperation, angst, that you do not wish to be on those meds due to the unwanted side effects. Because often, I believe, if the doctor can't read your emotional state sitting there right in front of them, then it's possible they won't act accordingly. Maybe you've already tried that but I'm not sure.

So, try that please, and stay hopeful. Other members here might be able to help you with legal advice and such, soon.

Believe things will get better for you and welcome.😌🙏

I think so. I don't know a lot about this, but in terms of medication / your parents and psychiatrist, you could consult a lawyer. I googled "mental health lawyer Michigan" and came up with results of attorneys. See who will talk to you for free, or a small fee. Also, you have rights. Nobody should be forced to take medication. (I'm not sure if there are exceptions to things like this) But if you feel your rights are being violated and you are being treated poorly and unfairly, yes there are things you can do. I am so sorry you're going through this.

Apply for disabled housing maybe. In my state it’s a town by town thing. Just apply like 100 towns maybe.

Might be good to get some thoughts from a lawyer. Ask questions.

Any help from therapist?
