I’m noticing recently that I am occasionally very literal about what people say. I have a good sense of humor usually and get jokes, some people have even told me that I am funny myself. But I’m having a little trouble at a new job because I take what people are saying very literally as far as directions. I’m unsure of whether it’s me or if they are just giving unclear instructions. I literally do what they say sometimes, but it’s not what they wanted. Afterwards I usually see what they were driving at and feel very stupid. But I’m not stupid I just did literally what they asked sometimes. What could this be a sign of?

I am exactly the same way. When people tell jokes or are sarcastic, I take what they say literally. In my case, I've wondered if it means I'm on the autism spectrum. I have a very high IQ, but interacting with people can be difficult for me if they aren't direct.

Sometimes it can be hard for most of us to misinterpret something that wasn't supposed to be literal. I think lots of problems with it might indicate the autism spectrum. Honestly, some people say something that's offensive and THEN claim they were being funny or such. That makes me mad.
