Or maybe its just me. That certain TV shows and books and other forms of media often only seem to trigger people who have not expirenced those issues? I watch a lot of shows like Top Model and Drag Race that at times can promote eating disorders and other body image issues, but they don't bother me. I also know a number of people with a history of trauma who are really into stuff like Law And Order and other true crime things. Personally that stuff freaks me out.

Does anyone know why this is?

I honestly don’t think there is a correlation. Maybe I am wrong. I think it’s just personal preference. My husband and I love crime dramas. Nothing to do with traumas, we just like to solve mysteries, figuring it out like a puzzle. I hate horror shows or movies. And I cannot stand fantasies, anything that cannot be real (the only exceptions are some good science fiction books but just a few). I think it’s just my preference. Maybe I just never gave it a thought why

I am one of those with trauma issues who can't watch Law & Order SVU but I enjoy the process depicted on Law and Order so I'll watch that version. I love old black and white monster movies because the monster never wins. I don't watch reality TV at all. Too much drama for me.

It seems to me that shows like Top Model and Drag Race may cause people to recognize underlying issues theyve been repressing. Just a theory on my part.

I know I started watching Drag Race a couple years before I came out and I like to think it played a pretty decent role in giving me the courage to do so.

Top Model I just watch for the drama and there are so many seasons to binge its basically just an endless show for me to watch.

The only thing that bothers me when I watch Top Model is the majority of the contestants are cis women and are taller then 5'7 and I'm only 5'5.

I'm not familiar with the shows that people named in this thread, but i'm guessing they are a bit like Big Brother or something similar where the people are getting filmed 24/7 and get judged by the public over basically anything?

I have few enough brain cells, i dont need to lost more to that type of judgemental (spelling) nonsense

the only reality show i watch for the entertainment value is The Apprentice (UK) cause they are supposed to be the smartest people running businesses and wanting to work for Alan Sugar in the UK

Yet they make stupid decisions a lot, for example one series (I forget which, would have to look it up) they had to make christmas chocolates, one of the teams chose to do a woman elf on their packaging dressed up like a tart (and i am not meaning jam tarts) and made it look like she was trying to flirt with Santa (or something) then insisted that none of it was meant to be sexual ......... oh and they litterally put the word "seduction" on the packaging ???????

I'd love to see Celebrity Big Brother UK. But you can't get it anywhere in the states. We only have 3 seasons here and I've seen all of them.

The shows @Mountaindewed is referring to are shows about alternative lifestyles, I think. Drag Race is about drag queens. They aren't like the ones you watch, I don't think.

🤣Listen to me, someone who hates reality TV trying to have an intelligent conversation about it. 🤣

However, I live an alternative lifestyle myself and those of us who do live it don't choose it but some in society believe we do.

I think it's because of societal attitudes that people can sometimes be triggered by some shows even though they haven't experienced what is being depicted. Perhaps they see something that reminds them of something they are repressing?

That's the best I can come up with. I repressed my true self for decades.

I enjoy all types of reality TV. Just Drag Race and Top Model are a lot more personal then the others.

Do they make a show that features people who are bipolar or have PTSD? Cuz if they did, I'd star in them. 🤣

I am finally starting to respond to meds tho so that might get me voted off the show.

I'm pretty sure all the Real Housewives are bipolar.
