Does this dsm manual that doctors and therapist use cover withdraw symptoms from medicines. Does it say anything about being misdiagnosed?

Is there a such book?

There is such a book and has been revised many times. Each revision is given a number ...DSM1, DSM2. Not sure which one is in current use.

DSM stands for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. There is some controversy among professionals about various aspects of the Manual with a few even disapproving of it or the whole idea of it.

Health Insurance agencies seem to like it because it nails things down for them when they try to price things.

I have seen it at bookstores but never read it and don't know if it covers withdrawals or misdiagnosis.

If I remember right, I have read somewhere that psychiatrists and psychologists sometimes prefer either earlier or later revisions of the DSM and that not everyone is onboard with the latest version.

I'd bet there are members here with much better and more accurate information about it than I have and I hope they see your post and respond to it in a helpful way. So sorry I could not be helpful to you in this!

DSM is just a book to label symptoms. They do have labels for withdrawal symptoms but if you’re asking if it outlines how to treat withdrawals no. That’s more a medical field and you need a psychiatrist who specializes in withdrawals. Most psychiatrists have training in withdrawals but some specialize in it. DMS is widely used in USA but not so much other places. It’s basically a list of numbers to be assigned to symptoms for insurance purposes. Places with national health can be more holistic and work with a person without needing to label them the first session.

to answer your questions -

is there such a book - yes there is a book called the DSM. it is published and updated periodically through the American Psychiatric Association.

you can purchase the DSM 5TR through the American Psychiatric Association website ($170.00 american money), or Amazon. or if you want to read it for free go to your local library. you will find it in their reference department.

Does it say anything about withdrawal symptoms - yes there is a section called substance abuse/ substance use that covers withdrawal from medications and drugs.

Does it say anything about misdiagnosis - yes it does on various pages in various sections.
