When I was young, I enjoyed playing video games for many hours, after a while I discovered YouTube and it became my favourite thing to do, then I started to like to read kids magazine and eventually books, years later, I started to like watching movies and TV shows.
Then I started finding nothing of these activities to be enjoyable and I stopped doing these activities, the problem is that I didn't find other activities to take these activities place, I don't have that much friends so I don't go out much, I am not into sports too (except for going to the gym after now and then) so, I lean towards indoor activities. I started to want to play games and watch stuff again lately but, I always feel guilty doing them, feeling I can do better activities than that, what are these activities? I have no idea. So, whenever I decide to play for 0.5-1 hr one or two days a week or maybe watch half an episode of a show per day I feel guilty (and that I should stop) although I am enjoying the thing. What should I do to stop this feeling? Are these activities actually waste of time (considering the amount of time I spend doing them, mentioned above)? I struggled with depression and OCD in the past (I still have OCD but much milder), they peaked when I first stopped doing these activities. |

Hello 3bdelrahman295XYZ. I noticed this is your first post here on MSF. Welcome to the forums.
From what you wrote, it certainly doesn't sound to me as though you're indulging in too much games playing or show watching. I seem to recall hearing, on a news program recently, that the average person is now spending something in the neighborhood of 7 hours per day involved with social media of one sort or another. I'm not a mental health professional. But, to me, it sounds as though what you're struggling with has more to do with guilt than it does what you're spending your time on. You mentioned you have depression and OCD. Perhaps it is these conditions that are causing you to feel guilty over the time you spend on games and show watching? Of course I don't really know. But that's my thought on the subject. You didn't mention if you see a mental health therapist or counselor of some sort. If not, perhaps that might be a good idea so you have someone you can talk with regarding your concerns? Again, just an idea. They might also be able to help you find some new activities you would enjoy that you'd feel good about spending time on. I hope you find the forums to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." You might have anhedonia (lack of enjoyment). I've had anhedonia most of my life. It's difficult to plan your day when you don't get enjoyment out of anything. It's absolutely horrible. You have to pretend that you like things and that leads to other problems.

None of us here are professionals, but I'm thinking depression might be what is causing your symptoms. I also think you need to see a therapist to find out for sure and get treated. What you're dealing with does sound sad.
I'm sort of dealing with this issue, too, though, as I am thinking about the New Year and how I spend my time. I want to be productive. But, that said, I think we all need some down time where we do something we like. But as skeez says, we just need not to get carried away with that! Again, welcome to MSF! I hope you'll end up enjoying some activities here, start meeting new friends, as well getting some help and suggestions. |
