I keep making stupid mistakes at work. I have a friend who has an ADHD diagnosis and insists that I show a lot of symptoms, but I don’t know…I just seem to be confused by things that others find quite easy.

I’ve thought this of myself MY WHOLE LIFE. Guess who got diagnosed with ADHD in her later adult years? Yes, me. It might be it for you too idk… I literally have wondered why things some people find so easy are so hard for me and thought I was just a dumb lazy P O ****. Turns out I’m not my brain works differently. And I’ve embraced the stuff I do well that is at times overlooked but I make a point to point it out now 😆 I hope that one day for you the things you do well carry as much weight as your mistakes. We all do them, I promise.

Or you may learn differently.

I need written instructions, and i need them grouped. Other people are fine with like lists of 100 things. Im like nope! Divide that sucker up.

Maybe I’m experiencing Rejection Sensitivity? That’s could be why I feel this way. I know that if any especially someone who’s opinion I value criticizes me I often feel awful for hours, or maybe even days. That could fit with an ADHD diagnosis.

I have been wondering if I should maybe try to get an official diagnosis, maybe then I could get therapy that is “designed for” ADHD and maybe medication as well.

I was diagnosed late in adult life. I am currently trying different meds. So far, not a fan. Even if you don’t use meds, having a diagnosis helps you validate yourself as a person. I now know I am not stupid (not completely), not just lazy, not alone, I understand why I frequently do things the “hard way”, I have developed amazing coping skills, and it led to an additional diagnosis that I have suffered from petit mal seizures all my life and did not know it. Those are being treated. You never know what might be lurking in that amazing brain of yours. Take a peek.

I think you definitely should get checked out for a diagnosis and info on what will help you at work. Are you under a lot of stress? That can affect attention, too.
