I’m posting this here because it looks like no one has answered the addiction forums in awhile. For about 4-5 months now my drinking has been straddling the line of heavy. I have gone days without drinking and have at least once over Christmas probably gone over a week. But since the first of the year I haven’t gone more than a couple days I think without a drink. I have also had a couple nights a week of maybe having three or four. I am never like s—tfaced but I am concerned. I had gone like three days without drinking Tuesday-Thursday then went to a friends house Friday night and went through a six pack. How worried should I be?

I want to add that no one in my immediate family is an alcoholic, but there is a prevalence of addictive behaviors. My mom’s side of the family is extremely overweight and my paternal grandmother was a fairly heavy smoker for most of her life.

IÂ’m trying to get on a steady schedule with a therapist right now. ItÂ’s been difficult though, I also wonder to some extent if I am catastrophizing. IÂ’m sure there are people who would come across this post and think that my drinking is pretty tame. I recognize (though most of my family does not) that we have issues with emotional regulation. I have been trying to figure out exactly what those issues are for years now and to deal with them, I just hope that I havenÂ’t opened some sort of PandoraÂ’s box over this winter that has or will wreck my physical health and will now plague me for the rest of my life.

it doesn't sound bad at least you are taking breaks, you should be concerned when you can't go even a day without drinking alcohol, maybe reduce it to three cans of beer when you go to your friends

Yeah the other night I went to his house again and only had a couple. It’s been three days since I had anything. I also realize that it’s not a good path to be going down and I have been working on getting the brakes on it. I think anxiety is feeding this on both ends so to speak.

It sounds like even though you're not drinking that much that it is a concern to you. And bothersome. I was drinking quite a bit with my ex and ended up going to a few online aa meetings. Aa is also for anyone who just wants to stop drinking not necessarily an alcoholic. It's a Wonderful support system the people made me feel welcomed and you can stay Anonymous as well you don't have to show your face. Just something to think about
