I've been in this apartment for 8 years.

I have 6 months to find a new one.

Do I just take the first one that fits my criteria?

Moving is hard. If you have 6 months you have a bit of time.

I would spend the 1st 2 months just looking at everything available in my price range. If I find something I really like, take it. If not then spend the last 4 months seriously looking because the last month would probably be needed for giving notice.

I came to Ky for 2 weeks to find a small farm 16 years ago. I knew if I didn't buy a farm when I was here I would end up going back to my bad marriage & losing all the money I had to my financially irresponsible husband I was buying a place to escape to. There were 4 farms for sale in my price range on the market. I ended up picking from location even though the farm set up was non-existent & needed work. Set priorities I required & did a process of elimination. Never regretted my choice because I logically thought through it & knew why I chose the little farm I chose. Apartments are the same way.....the "perfect" place never exists but the best choice one does. Don't pass up one you like waiting to find the "perfect" one

Great advice!

Except I am on public assistance so that limits my options tremendously. I guess I should have mentioned that too.

I guess a lot depends on the real estate market where you live too. Where I live the rental market is extremely tight. If I knew I needed to find a place to rent, I'd start looking as soon as possible, especially if my price range was limited. Really, you have to take what you can get. In markets with more availability, taking some time to shop around is more of an option.

It stinks because I'm in the country and the only things available are in the city.

Quite an adjustment

I understand. That would be a huge adjustment. I did the opposite four years ago. My husband and I moved from our country's capital city to a more rural area. It took some adjusting at first. However, now, there is no way I would move back to the capital. I am used to my life here now, and the city has sadly gone downhill significantly.

I would apply for any place that fit my budget.

I'm in the same boat, I love my current place but got a voucher and to use it I have to move. I applied at a place and am freaking out. Having buyers remorse, but finding I don't like anything better except for space but they don't have amenities. it's a tough call. Try to get something you like it'll motivate you to move. mine was dishwasher. washer dryer, balcony. now for that I may be getting rid of some furniture.

Great idea. I never thought about that.

5 years at my place waited 2 years to get in. I use the storage closet as my office the new apt has more sq footage but less wall space real open concept. No storage closet to use as an office. so I'm having planning denial issues.

When my brother had all kids still living at home, he had his office set up in the living room in one of the corners. It was working fine. He now was able to put in one of the bedrooms. Living room could be just fine. Could you do that?

So now I wrote an apology letter to the current property manager. She may reconsider in a few months. In the meantime I'm looking at another place down the road which is run by her sister. This would definitely be a downgrade and much smaller. Not as nice as what I live in now. So my question is should I hold out in the hopes that she may change her mind? Or do I just take the place up the road if I'm able to?

My living room will be stuffed with living room furniture, thinking I can fit it in bedroom. Plus i don't want to look at it all the time.

So the apartment I wanted that is close to my sons, daughter and grandson is a no go.
Which means I'll have to move further away from them. I don't have a car so I rely on their help.
5 months now and it's very stressful
