I had a really bad cold all last week and I'm mostly over it but I can't taste or smell a thing. I've tried garlic, ginger, cinnamon, salsa, matcha, nacho cheese, and many other things, and I can't taste anything. Soda tastes like water. I'm eating Ritz crackers right now which are like cardboard. Its driving me crazy. Even when I had covid last year the loss of taste and smell wasn't this bad. I stuck my nose in a stick of rub on Vicks and even that didn't trigger anything
Does anyone have any suggestions? Will I get over this? __________________ I'm Blue |

Sometimes it takes awhile. Did you test for covid?

Yeah I got tested for covid. It sure felt like I had it though. Even worse than the first time. But I was negative.

A few years ago, long before COVID, I had a cold that left me without a sense of smell for something like 3 months. It was really annoying, but it made me appreciate having a sense of smell afterwards. As lizardlady said, give it some time... It will very likely come back.

I lost mine completely with covid for a couple of months and it was slow to come back, that wasn’t like congestion though, it was like a switch being flicked. For up to a year after I had distortion, but eventually it came back normal.
During this time I was told to sniff and taste strong things, like lemon slices, coffee, mint. If it’s the type caused by congestion you could try things like inhaling menthol vapour or menthol sweets/gum. |

Its been coming and going now. Yesterday I could smell and taste fine. Today I can't smell but I can somewhat taste, just not flavors. Like my vanilla Coke just tasted like regular Coke when normally I can taste the vanilla.

I agree with the advice above. A loss like that would upset me too. But I think fretting about it might make the symptom last longer. Try to relax and believe that your taste and smell will return in due time. It is very encouraging that you are now
having a partial return to normal. |

I’ve read a few articles on nicotine gum helping out. Do some research!

Sorry I should have replied to this thread instead of making a new one.
My sense of smell is fine now but my taste is still really distorted and I posted this back in May. I just go by texture most of the time. I can taste Mountain Dew for some reason __________________ I'm Blue |

Were you just doing home tests? Both times when I had covid I tested negative few days in a row. Home tests don’t always detect it. Did you go to a clinic? I am pretty sure you had covid as I’ve never heard of full loss of taste and smell from a regular cold
