What do I gift myself when I’m not sure what I like?

Last Christmas I gifted myself with a new vacuume cleaner & a really cool chain saw that I have used so much this year while clearing brush on my farm. For me it wasn't about what I like it was about what I really needed. Go figure, I truly LOVE my chain saw....best gift I ever gave myself & my farm is starting to look really good.

Ok, I used to buy myself paints & brushes for painting. Will get back to enjoying them this winter when finished with the outside work.

Guess I kinda gifted myself with a new puppy this year too. Got him just after July 4 & is the newest member of my fur baby family. That has blessed me so much & brought lots of love & fun (& work) back into my life after losing my last elderly eskie doggie a year ago.

Think we just gift ourselves sometimes with things we need or want & those are the things we enjoy.

There must be something that interests you. Do you do any hobbies, sports, what clothes do you like, etc.? I'd give it some thought.

I bought myself an early Christmas present. My country hosted the Panamerican Games recently. I love birds and the mascot was a stuffed animal based on a beautiful bird they have here. The medal winning athletes all received one. I decided I had to have one. Now, they are only selling a Christmas version, so I just ordered that. Yeah, kind of frivolous, but I work hard and save, so I feel like I can make purchases like that every so often.

Real bird and the mascot:

To the original poster, I think you mentioned you are trying to cook more. Maybe you could buy a cookbook, some kitchen utensils or similar.

Thanks eskie, I think it's cute.

Do you mean you are sick?

To the original poster: I suggest you go out to some shops/stores and look around to see what draws your attention. I sometimes see something I didn't know I wanted, And shopping around is a gift for me, too--I love to shop! The suggestion about cooking items is a good one, too.

So I am going through a new phase in my life. It’s hard, it’s like the freedom of being myself is the burden of being myself. So I’m getting used to it. It was so overwhelming that I would use the Internet the whole day. Last week I made some progress- I now have a routine in the morning and I use my phone afterwards as a reward for following it. My mom was not entirely controlling, I had a bit of myself too. It’s complicated. But two weeks ago, I went to the mall all by myself and tried on clothes to see what suits ME and not what makes anyone happy.
My neighbour’s cat and her kitten like to hang out with me, and their love is a gift in itself.
I bought a new book called Feeling Good by Dr Burns, it helped me a lot with my thoughts.
As for what my hobbies are, I myself don’t know. It’s strange but true, what I loved as a child I don’t connect with much now. And I’m starting out with my favourites list- oranges, Disney princesses, cats, Grimms fairy tales, etc
I still don’t know what my favourite activities are until I leave my comfort zone

Fiu is the name of the stuffed bird mascot I bought (I, not L). The name comes from the bird's call. He has a Santa hat.

to the OP, I think that's great you are trying on clothes to discover your style. The book sounds interesting too.

I wanted a telescope one year for Christmas, but my practical parents bought me a pair of binoculars. I was very disappointed.

Last year I bought myself a telescope. It's still in the box, but I'm happy I finally got one. Just a thought, OP. What did you not get for Christmas one year? Get it, if you can afford it. I got a really good deal.

Since you want to decrease your screen time, buy something that is not at all associated with screen time. As has already been mentioned, a book, a cookbook, kitchen utensils, paint and brushes–all good ideas.

I recently gifted myself a set of colorful Cuisinart knives. Knives are extremely important in the kitchen, so it is a useful gift but also pleasant to look at because I very much like colorful kitchen items.

If you peel your own vegetables, I can recommend my Swiss swivel vegetable peeler. It works great and is also pleasant to look at, being a primary color.

Lol....my gifting myself always seems tied to a need. Dang this year I got a sidewall flat in my truck tire & had to buy a new huge truck tire that cost a fortune.

I decided that I am going to buy myself a ticket to go see the Christmas Carol Experience (play) at our local Historical Beaumont Inn in town. Heard it is an awesome experience as the play moves around through the rooms of the Inn & not in a theater.

I have never been to such a play. Tell us about it!

OP, in general, what do you think about gifting yourself an experience rather than an object?

If you see something, and it sparks a positive feeling, you probably like it!

Will let you know how it is. Going to get a ticket for one night this week whatever they have available. Everyone I know that has gone says it is amazing. They did a similar play at the Fort for Halloween for tge Headless Horseman. Our small town gets some great activities
