When I was 17 in a treatment center I mentioned wanting something weird and instead of being understanding my therapist said that if I asked for it again I'd be put at a table and every time I'd go towards it (as if I couldn't control myself or some ****) I'd be electrically shocked each time.
I am not kidding. This conversation happened. I've mentioned this stuff before and after to therapists and to my mom and they were just like "whatever. Its just a sensory thing. Just part of your autism." But this therapist freaked out. Is this a real form of treatment? __________________ I'm Blue |

Getting people electrically shocked is illegal and most certainly not real treatment.

Is this for real?
If so, this approach stems from behavioral therapy i.e. aimed to change someone's unhealthy (or so-called 'dysfunctional') behaviors. In the instance you describe, it's a conditioning based on positive punishment. |

Unfortunately there is a place near me that uses shock to "control" patients. Its being investigated by the state. As I understand it, they only use it for extremely self mutilating patients...but still....😓
