I'm a firm believer of the power of suggestion. Because of that belief, I encounter many occurances which present themselves once something has been brought to conscious thought, (mostly positive, however sometimes not).
I cannot help but to sometimes wonder though, if it is my belief that brings that specific thought to presenting itself to me, or if it is actually what IS. I suppose, either way, it still remains the basis of the power of our mind. "You think, therefore you are" sorta thing. Such as, the attraction factor: positive attracts positive. However, there are times when the consciousness triggers the sub, and in such cases, the attration factor is then put to its test of grandure, which then brings me straight back to the origin of initial question regarding the POS; real or coincidence. I was only curious what any of your thoughts are regarding the power of suggestion, and if you have experiences yourself. Shangrala ![]() Last edited by Shangrala; May 15, 2009 at 11:39 AM. ![]() My intentions weren't to stirr negative vibes for anyone. My apologies to those it does. I was hoping to encourage positive thoughts as for me, I'm determined to utilize my belief for just that.. the positive. However, I admit that I, too, have occassional negative attractions, but am learning to explore the negative and seek out the positive. As with every action there is a REaction. It's a slow process....to seek on the good hidden within the bad...but the fact remains that there is good in everything. The struggle is discovering how to find it, i suppose. Huggles. Absolutely, the power of suggestion can influence others, if they take the suggestion to heart. It's just like more direct communication. If you tell your child they're worthless, stupid and no-good, they may come to believe it. If they believe it, they'll criticize every mistake they make and believe it proves you were right. If you think a friend should be more concerned about the whereabouts of her husband late at night, mentioning it might put the thought in her head. She may, reasonably or unreasonably, start to worry if he's cheating on her.
Ever have someone mention a food you hadn't been thinking of or weren't in the mood for, and suddenly, you're craving it? They may not have intentionally gotten you hungry for that food, but there you go. You can also dismiss thoughts and some won't stick. In other words, not every suggestion is going to be accepted. You can see tips on using suggestion and other methods to influence others in books on selling, negotiation, getting your way, etc.
