I've been waiting for this game to come out for so long only to be really disappointed with it.

Frankly, I found all of those games to be boring. The most interesting variation is Playstation Home, which is free on the PS3, you just have to set up an account, log in, create an avatar and off you go. Additional content is charged on fee per item basis, but is rather reasonable.
There is an interesting movie coming up staring Bruce Willis. It is about a future world where people play a VR type game that uses robot Avatars that go out in the real world. The players are conected to the robots by mind link and can fully interact with world through these machines. It is a very dark and disturbing concept, like the sims but more real since the game takes place in the real world. |

I don't find it boring it's just too hard to control. I understand why they made the changes, but I don't think the trade off is worth it. I'd rather wait for the next location to load rather than not be able to freely explore my home lot.

I broke down and bought Sims 3 for dot last night...haven't been able to pull her away from it...yet. She loves it.
Personally....the creation of the character is where I'd have my fun....after that..I'm satisfied.....lol. Shangrala ![]() |

It's just so frustrating. When I new version comes out I like to play the existing characters until I get the hang of it. On this one I tried to play the Goth's but their house is too big, I cannot scroll over to get them to do what I want. Even in buy mode I can't put things where I want. I have to buy them, make my character do something in the room and move it again.

Can you go into the game and try this
![]() Go to buy mode on the lot. Select something just to try this out. Once its selected and you are able to move with it, hold down the right mouse button and "push" the cursor against the edge of that screen in the direction you want to go. I am able to easily scroll doing this. Maybe you didnt know? Im wondering. |

I still do not understand the appeal of this series. I am not sure how much of a game you have from taking out the trash and buying an appartment. I play video games to escape from real life, and do things in them I could never do in my own life (battle hoards of demons, rescue the world from terrorism, drive a lamborghini, etc) not re-live it. Oh well to each his own

The appeal I have found .....is creating my friends in it
and getting them to do what I want them to do. I liked the Romeo and Juliet version. I created Hamlet etc too that was fun.... We don't have Sims 3 in Australia. If I were in charge of creating the Sims games I'd make a lot of changes. But I"m not.....lol

I think the appeal, at least for me is that I am in control of everything. I strive to make the perfect family (without cheats). Plus it's really funny.
My kids started playing years ago. I played for a few minutes and I was bored, but they were so animated telling me what was going on with their games (need to make choices whether to hire a maid or buy food; which is more important in the long run something fun or something that will help you to succeed in your job; social services coming in to take your baby because you let it cry too long; kids running away from home or going to military school because all of their needs weren't met). They were only 5 and 8 so I started playing just to make sure that their sims would live happy, healthy lives and rearrange their random houses and I became hooked. I've loved every single expansion and stuff pack that has come out since the original. I ABSOLUTELY hated this new version, it was so frustrating. Our ISP lost a tower yesterday so I was unable to play the shockwave games so I sat down once again determined to make the stupid thing work. I'm warming up to it. I finally figured out how to move, but I still hate the buy mode. So few choices and it's still difficult to put things where I want them. And those stupid books! Everyone has to have their own set because they never put them back when they're finished!!! After playing for a few hours yesterday I'm on the fence.

Ok I found something that I absolutely hate. Part of my process is to build the perfect house and create a family to earn enough money to buy it and live there. As far as I can see you cannot build an empty house from the main menu :-(

It seems to have taken a step back rather than forward. The interactions that have been improved steadily from Sims - Sims 2 Apartment life have taken a huge step back, it seems... like a generic knock off that just doesn't have it quite right. Plus there's a huge learning curve. It takes quite a while to get used of the fact that if you want to play several households you have to save them all as different names etc. It is handy that once you create a family you can play it in any game, but it's frustrating the only choice is the family right after you created them, not the improved family. At least I haven't figured yet how to evict them to the family bin.
One of the first things that I used to do was set up my town and expansion lots with the things that I want so that I know where everything is. I haven't figured out how to do that yet so I'm stuck with the default town and town that I got as a free download with the purchase of the game.
