I'm so glad the English Premier League are starting again! I love football or soccer as we call it in South Africa. Can't wait for the World Cup being held here in South Africa! I was wondering if there are any Manchester United fans on this site? Please let me know?

I am by proxy! I'm American and live in Phoenix, Arizona but my hubby's son (my stepson) graduated there and is a die-hard MU fan, he has season tickets! We always keep track of MU and Arsenal rivalry - my hubby's from London. He's a Cambridge man and tracks the Cambridge v. Oxford games. You call it soccer in SA? Funny, I would think it's football there, also. However, I'm afraid I wouldn't be much of a chat partner for you as I don't follow any of it personally. We do put the games on the television occasionally, tho.

Hope it's a great season of enjoyment for you!

Thanks very much for replying, Vickie. I didnt expect someone from the USA to be interested in that kind of football. I know your football is grid iron, isnt it? Well, tell your son to enjoy the seasons' games and I hope his team will beat his father's team each time this season!

Go Well

Thanks for replying. I don't really know any other Manchester United fans, because being from a Afrikaans background, everybody is just into rugby. So I don't really fit in. Thanks to satelite TV, I can now watch all the world's football that I want. Well, hope you have time to support Man U this season. I think your country's football league is the most professional and entertaining of all the worlds' leagues.

Go Well!

We do have American soccer which is gaining popularity. My husband played rugby until he got to university and took one look at the size of the players (he's 5 feet 10 inches) and took up rowing!!! He didn't want to be killed just to play rugby and he can swim so it was a smart choice for him! He rowed for England for six years. Now days he keeps up with all international sports.

Wow, you should be proud of your husband's rowing career, hey? I can't believe that the guys play rugby without almost any protective gear. It really is a ruffian's sport. No thanks.

Very proud, indeed. We have pics, medals and cups on display on our home and he's still a member of the London Rowing Club.

Another little tidbit: <-------

He was in school with Stephen Hawking. Stephen was a year behind my hubby right before he took off for Oxford and my hubby had gone off to Cambridge. Stephen had built a computer out of old telephone switching parts and my hubby programmed it. This was before there were small computers. My husband went on to become one of the first computer programmers to come out of Cambridge, although his degree was in Mathmatics. Later, Stephen went to Cambridge for his doctorate.

In 2005, Stephen came to San Fransisco, California for the Cambridge in America reunion as guest speaker and recognized my husband from across the hotel lobby. He hailed him in his electronic voice. We have a photo of them together. Was a thrilling experience for my husband that Stephen recognized him after 50 years.

This weekend Manchester United won again. I think Wayne Rooney is really ready for the season. I don't think the team is even going to miss Cristiano Ronaldo. I will miss him, because of his sexyness. But I think he is a bit too full of himself. To me Dimitar Berbetov is also quite cute!
Thanks for this!

I must admit, you are right, Arsenal is a very good team. And Arsene Wenger is a good coach!

Sir Alex rules!!! I think Nani can be the next Cristiano Ronaldo. Michael Owen is of course also good, but I think his best years are behind him. Rooney of course needs no mention. Brilliant!

Man United did it again! Two beautiful goals by Dimitar Berbatov and John O'shea brilliantly set-up by Ryan Giggs. Great
