I baked a ham all by myself today. I never baked one before. It tasted very good. And I am not dead yet so I must not have messed it up too bad. My son even came back for thirds.
The instructions that were packed with it were very confusing, one side said 2 TBs, the other side said 1 1/2 Tbs of water for the glaze. Also said 325 degrees on one side and 425 on the other side. Also 30 minutes versus 15 minutes. I was about to give up but my son wanted a ham!
Did you know that plastic forks can not withstand a 325 degree oven for very long?
Thanks for this!

Good for you!! For most experienced cooks hams are easy but for someone with no experience cooking, it must seem complicated. Just make sure when you're using the oven - to pre-heat the oven -meaning turn it on before you put the food and wait for the oven to reach the desired temp. You should learn how to roast a chicken because it's a very economical meal - can use the leftovers for sandwiches etc. You should buy yourself a BASIC cookbook for beginners that teach you the ground rules for basic cooking. Glad it turned out well.

Being a non-cook myself, I did NOT know that, and I cannot imagine how you reconciled the conflicting instructions. That must be what you call Love for the Son! Congratulations! If I were to use my oven, which I never have, I would probably have to vacuum it out first!

Way to go! I did know that about the fork, lol. My first experience with a Ham was not a good one. I sent my husband to the store for an unsmoked ham, which I didn't know was a pork roast. (What I wanted I later found out was a ham that had no additional flavor added like applewood or whatever). I baked it, it looked exactly like the picture in the cookbook. I was very proud, I was cooking it for a huge group of people for a Christmas party.

When we cut into it, it was absolutely horrible, no flavor at all and very tough.
