My curiosity be stirring again...
Have you ever come across a quote that, at the time you read/heard it, it made absolutely NO sense to you, but later discovered its meaning?

My mom was notorious for her many quotes, (her own, cliche & philospohical), and in my youth, some made sense...yet many I was clueless to...(until living the experience made it all click...lol).

These are some examples of the ones she used to say, which took me a while to grasp...

"Sometimes, the shortest way home is the longest way around".

"We often teach best what we need to learn most".
I have to admit, this one took a VERY long time to sink in with me..(I be slowzz...lol).

"The best way to learn of one's distrust is by trusting them".
I perfectly understand this one, but because of who I am, I continue to discover this one a few times more than I care to admit.

.....Just thot it'd be entertaining, if any of you care to share any quotes that took a while to understand....(or am I really that slow....LOL).

Can't think off the top of my head any quotes that I didn't previously understand. However: I really like your quote "We often teach best what we need to learn most". I can very much relate to that. It seems so much easier to help someone with their problem than to help yourself with your own. There is actually a quote for that..not entirely sure how it goes, but something along the lines of "I want to be known as the person who could help someone else even though I couldn't help myself".

A bird in the hand is worth two in a bush.

I was only 8 when I first heard it and I think I was 14 when I got it.

Charity begins at home. My mow would say this. I have not heard it since. I grew-up upper middle class and were not hurting for money. I still do not understand the quote. Can anyone clue me in?

no one truly dies until all that remember them die as well-that came from a sci-fi movie.

it is not the size of the man in the fight, that counts, but the size of the fight in the man

never ask anyone to do something that you are not willing to do yourself.

The point of the journey is not to arrive-Rush( the Rock Group, not the radio host)

just a few

*Those who points their finger to blame are the ones who hides their shame.

* You are the company you keep.

* Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

NF~ "Charity begins at home".
I believe that means that the act of giving, kindness and good deeds start first within self and at home?

With anything that has ever gotten me upset, my dad is known for (though, not his) "bite the bullet". It helps alot..but I'm known for retaliating..LOL.
