Search and rescue teams will continue looking for a missing autistic boy in rural Cape Breton Sunday despite snowfall warnings that call for as much as 15 centimetres of snow for the area.

Seven-year-old James Delory went missing around 2 p.m. Saturday. Investigators believe he followed his family's dog when it walked into the woods near the family home near South Bar.

Delory, who is described as having brown hair and weighing about 60 pounds, was wearing dark jeans, a blue plaid shirt and a grey-coloured vest. He was not wearing a winter coat.

As of 4:41 a.m. local time Sunday, Environment Canada was calling for "significant snowfall" across Cape Breton County.

By the end of the day, anywhere from five to 15 centimetres could cover the region, with a further 10 to 15 centimetres possible, particularly over high terrain.

Staff Sgt. Ken O'Neill of the Cape Breton Regional Police Service, said snow was already making conditions in the area "wet and slushy" on Sunday morning.

"(The weather) won't change the way we're searching," O'Neill told CTV News Channel in a telephone interview from Cape Breton. "Obviously with our ground search people, clothing would be an issue, and in that regard probably some heavier clothing (will be necessary) for those folks. But it won't change our patterns. We will continue on and hopefully we can find James."

Late Saturday, Canadian Forces Base Greenwood dispatched a search and rescue Cormorant helicopter, which is equipped with night-vision gear, to join the search.

According to O'Neill, ground search teams were combing the rural, wooded area, which is adjacent to a number of communities, including the city of Sydney, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Boats were also out on the water Saturday night, searching the east side of Sydney harbour.

Missing N.S. boy found alive

A young autistic boy found in the woods this morning after being missing for two days is alive but suffering from hypothermia and is in critical condition, says Nova Scotia's Emergency Health Services department.

Seven-year-old James Delorey was found Monday morning, about one kilometre from a command post that was set up in South Bar, N.S., north of Sydney.

Cape Breton Regional Police spokesperson Desiree Vassallo would not comment on Delorey's condition earlier Monday, but said more information would be released at a news conference later today. That news conference has been scheduled for 4 p.m. local time.

"We're confirming that he has been located, but at this point that's all the information that I have," she said.

"Paramedics are being taken to the scene to assess his situation."

Delorey had been missing since Saturday afternoon, when it is believed that he followed his pet dog, a Dalmation-mix named Chance, into a wooded, marshy area in South Bar, about 10 kilometres north of Sydney.

The dog returned home on Monday morning without Delorey.

Authorities had said they hoped to follow the dog's tracks in the snow, as part of an intensive search effort that involved aircraft, police and volunteers searchers.

The search was especially urgent for several reasons, including the fact that Delorey was not dressed for winter weather when he went missing and that he is autistic.

Delorey did not have a winter coat on when he went missing, and he was not wearing a hat or mittens. A snowstorm hit the region only hours after he went missing.

I know all you will join me in sending prayers and or good thoughts out..anyone touched by an autistic child(or any child!) knows they are such precious creatures and how sad it would be if he passed now, after being found. I dont know them personally but i know of people who know the family, thats the way it is here.
Thanks for this!
