I recently received an invitation to start playing Farmville on Facebook.

I have no clue how to play the game or what it is all about.

Can someone please explain in simple terms what this game is about and how to play it?

Thank-you!

Basically what you have to do is plant crops and harvest them.

To plant crops you need to prepare the land (you click on the little agricultural tool), and now it's ready to have something planted on it. You click on the store icon and you can buy seeds and then plant them. Later you come back to harvest them.

That's the basic premise. You can decorate your farm with fences, buildings, trees, animals, etc. I don't really get the appeal of the game but I know some people love it. I tried playing it once and that was it, so I'm sure someone can explain it better.
Thanks for this!

Yes, that is a good explanation.

It's kind of fun to watch the crops grow from seedlings planted to full size. They actually get bigger and the fruit or vegetable grow too; at first they are not visible, then when it's closer to maturity they are bigger. When you buy them it tells you how long until they will be ready to harvets (one hour to several days). If you don't harvest them they will wither. When you plant them you use coins; when you harvest them you earn coins. So if they wither you have lost your investment.

Trees are separate and they bear fruit and are harvested too.

Animals are "harvested": cows are "harvested" for milk, horses for horse hair, pigs for truffles, sheep for wool, ducks for down, rabbits for angora, etc.

There are also fun things, seasonal things to buy, like Halloween decorations, Christmas tree, etc.
Thanks for this!

It's an ok game. If you click on help above the place where you see your farm there is some very helpful information listed there. Once you start playing it's pretty easy to get the hang of and the above descriptions are right on.

I'm one of those "Farmville" addicts. I love that game... but what everyone has said is pretty much the explanation of it. It's a very popular game on FB!

Is it kinda like Ultimate Online?

Except for the age appeal, maybe?
