Can some one say - - - -> OUCH!!

My son went down to the DMV to renew his driver license and it cost him $48
to renew it - ouch! It only cost me $20 back in July. What is this world coming to?

BTW - he failed his eye exam and had to get glasses before they would renew his license, oh well he needed them any ways.

Oh that is awful, had his license actually expired or was he just doing the standard renewal? Regardless that is a high amount for a renewal.

Wow. That seems alot for just a renewal, but then again...

I've been trying to renew mine, as well. In state of California the fee is only $28, which includes everything, (and my licence has been expired there for bout 17 years now).
In Nevada, renewal is $25, (but because mine has been out of commission here fore WELL over 30 years, I have to pay a "reinstatement" fee of $120, on top of the renewal, on top of another $25 bucks for each exam taken). Would prove beneficial for me to just hitchhike back to Cali, get my licence there, return here and transfer it over to a Nevada one.....lol. (Wahhh...I miss Cali).

I didn't realize that each state has it's own fees dictated....Apparently, DMV is a self-contained government all of their own....O.O (Few worse than Nevada, I think).

Good luck to your son & new licence.

Standard Renewal.... I guess even the government (or city) is starting to raise prices to make ends meet in this struggling environment.

My mom has to renew hers (we are in california) and it costs $31. I had to do mine this year because I turned 21 and it was the same amount.

In the UK we only renew it if it has been taken away for reasons like drink driving or medical reasons other than that its yours for life.

Once I didn't renew my license simply because I no longer had a car at the time and wasn't driving anything. So too much time passed... and they actually made me retake the driver's test. I was like 24 and the oldest person there. The tester just made me pull in and out of the parking lot because he knew how ridiculous it was. So there were more fees..plus I didn't even get a real license, I got the stupid trial one they gave teens.
