It snowed! I've been up all night because my sleep schedule is all screwed up. But it snowed while I was watching TV! I'm always excited for the first snow.

To look out and see a blanket of white is a time of mixed emotions for me. There is the beauty of the scene. Too, winter is a harder time for me.

Nonetheless, I still marvel at Mother Nature. Walking in the still of a winter's night lit by a full moon with the only sound being the crunching of your feet is awesome.

And when Mother Nature unleashes the wind and snow during a blizzard I am quickly reminded of how fragile man is.

I want my snow to fall in the front garden not the back or the roads as I hate driving in it.

The snow here is the good packing type, makes great snowballs. But it also is very slick on the driveway. Fell twice trying to see if my newspaper came yet. Wonder if I could train my cat to fetch the paper?

Agree on that!
That's bout how much snow is here...maybe a bit more...give or take.

Took my dot for a walk in it the other day (her first real experience in snow), she had a ball...or, I should say, I received all the balls that she couldn't help but to continue throwing at me. Good thing her aim needs great attendance for improvement.... Making a snowman with her was priceless.

I've so gotta take her inner tubing. Skiing is out of the question, as I've never figured out how to remain upright on those things without sliding backwards....lol.
Iceskating on the local lake is a must...still haveta wait another month for it to completely freeze over to where it's safe. Nothing like ice skating on a real lake....seeing the fish beneath the ice..the crackle of the ice while skating..quite the experience.

Then I used to walk the mile to university every morning in the dark in Kansas, there were those times in the winter when it snowed and it stayed around for a few days. When the sun came out in the day, it would make icycles hanging from eaves and tree branches, etc.

One of the streets I would cross on my walk every morning was called Jewell Street. The street sign always had tiny icycles hanging from it, glistening in the light from the street lamp. I always smiled (behind the muffler tightly wrapped around my mouth and nose) because the sign did look like a glistening jewel in the light of the lamp.

16 inches (~ 40 cm) here, the most ever recorded (by the white man) for a December in this area:

It snowed

I'm too aware the dangers of "skating on thin ice". Why I have to wait til next month for the ice to thicken to where it is safe.
Lake skating offers the atmosphere that rink skating doesn't, and the crackle is common to hear while sliding over it...much like walking in the snow. There is a drag to lake skating tho...If it freezes over while a wind is present, it maintains the lil ripples in the ice...hard to skate on smoothly...lol.

What's best is when skating on the open lake and there is a breeze present, to hold up a sheet of cardboard to form a sail and..whooooosh..away you go. FUN!
