Some of you may remember the thread from January 4th where I talked about my husband's Uncle Colin who was surprised to find himself assisting with the birth of my husband in 1941 in the midst of WWII when Hitler was bombing London, Uncle Colin not knowing the first thing about "birthin' no babies". He had phoned us from his home in British Columbia following the passing of my mother-in-law, he and my husband laughing about his naivete in such things and how he learned very quickly about where babies come from, literally.

We have received sad news today that Uncle Colin has died. He was 90 years old and apparently, sometime after we spoke on the phone, contracted pneumonia and was not able to come out of it. My husband was named after him and we were planning to make a trip to see him and I would have liked to have asked him about his life and record it. Alas, once again, a good idea executed too late.

Rest in Peace, Uncle Colin. We love you and will miss you very much.

((Vickie))

I don't believe your timing was off. It looks to me like Uncle Colin just did the work for you by contacting you and your husband to share this amazing bit of history before he left this world. It may not be what you wanted to take from him, but it's what he wanted to give to you. I agree, it's amazing - don't lose it!

Rest in peace, Uncle Colin.

Sorry for your loss. He sounds like a good person.

Reading your post makes me want to get moving and interview my grandmother about her life. She is 92 right now and more active/productive than I am. (she is not bipolar like me) She still tells me stories about how she would buy an eggplant during the depression for 25 cents and make it last a week.... I think I'll go call her.
