![]() Tata Motors a car company in India currently produces the car above. The Nano, a very basic transportation device, retails for $2,500. The Nano has been described as the Model T for the third world. Officials at Tata have announced intentions to bring the car to the US. The car would have to have a number of modifications to make it street-legal here in the US. Airbags, reinforced bumpers, and other neccessary adjustments would have to be applied so it can be sold here. Tata estimates they could retail the car, with all the changes for $8000, possibly less. A European market version, now in production gets roughly 50 miles to the gallon, with a top speed of 65mph. That would still make the Nano by far the cheapest car sold here in the States. Tata motors is noted for one other thing, they are the owners of Jaguar. |

I think I saw that on a TV news segment or another show about cars. That's really interesting.

The nice thing about late model Jags is depreciation. You would be suprised at how affordable a 3-4 year old Jag can actually be. Thanks to Ford's management over the last few years they have been made more reliable than in the old days of Lucas Electronics.
How Tata will do managing this firm now, is hard to say. |

If I needed a car I'd buy it because it's cheap, but it looks ugly to me

LOL- for 8K you are not going to get a Ferrari, if you look at other super cheap cars, the Accent, The Yaruis, The Versa, Fit, Aveo, none of these are lookers.
