It doesn't matter what you call it... i guess you could call it a medicine bag... or a spirit bag.. or maybe even a little psychology talisman
![]() i don't believe in hoaky things, but i do believe in the seeds we plant in our heads, and in the way our own energy affects our whole world. My T and i had a discussion about things that help people, or that we believe help us, and he off-handedly mentioned rabbit's feet. It got me thinking. Maybe some kind of little bag of wishes would bring me something inside. i used to have a wish tin where people could choose a small symbol from a bag and it was like a horoscope of sorts... it was a really sweet thing. so.. i got me a little organza bag and gathered up objects around my home. i took time to pick things that "spoke" to me... they were symbols that held meaning for me. That is the important part of this, to choose your own symbols to represent what matters to you. i think it also matters to choose things that are sort of open-ended... but that part is just me... i chose a piece of rose stone that looks like a chunk of pink gravel. It's because i stone carve and i know that this unassuming rock could become something beautiful if i choose to make it happen. It's a symbol of hidden potential and beauty unseen. i chose a small pendant i found on the street... an embroidered lotus because i have a lotus tattoo and the lotus represents emergence from a difficult journey. a worry stone that i carry to ground myself a metal crescent moon that i found... to remind myself to keep dreaming and to aim for high things in life a little fish pendant a friend gave me, to remind me of my friends, those who matter, and the ocean because it is my cathedral i put a tiny star sapphire in there too. It fell out of a ring i once had and i am using it to symbolize wealth and prosperity. It's there because i hope i can turn the difficult part of my life around, but it is also the smallest thing in the bag because wealth is the least important of my hopes and desires. Gathering these objects was an exercise in itself. As i said, i chose open-ended things, things without limits. i chose things that symbolized keeping my dreams alive, instead of an object symbolizing a specific dream... if that makes sense. It's up to you what you choose, but i'd suggest that you make it about YOU and your path in this world, and not have it be a memory box or some kind of totem to others. i'd recommend avoiding putting pictures in there, for example. This is about symbolism and developing a larger sense of that sacred side of you... if a child is the center of things, then i'd suggest maybe a locket of hair or some other object that brings the essense of their spirit to your mind. That is what it is about... being able to bring the energy of your own personal symbolism within your reach and then draw on it for strength. Any rabbit's foot know that ![]() peace

I love this idea too. Memories and strengths are tied together, i believe in the weaving of who we are and the gift of knowing others. Its bringing yourself to its core, and knowing what is impt, symbolic and what isn't. Lots of the material things people want aren't what they will cherish in 20 years. I always say to myself, would i like this in 20years, does it have any meaning to me. Memories, its funny i've always been somewhat of a collector of select memories, and not taking picture type either. I just wanta thank you Lovely Little Rhino for getting me thinking and on the right track. I hope your week is a good one.

i am a cherokee and i have been making medicine bags since i was very little. my grandmother just recently put a lock of her hair in the one i've had for a long long time.
you see, in our traditions the hair is sacred. we do not cut it unless we are going through mourning. we even clear our hair out of our hairbrushes so that no one can get to it. it's a real honor to give someone a lock of your hair. its sort of like cherokee voodoo in a way. it is a great exercise. i wear my medicine bag, but i also wear some saint medals around my neck. saint dymphna and saint jude. they help me everyday.
