This could be a really long story or I could try to keep it short so it will get read. Hmmm...which shall I choose? I'll choose the short version but try to put in all the good stuff.

I've mentioned before that over the past two years I've gone through many personal and family traumas that kept mounting and eventually put me in the hospital once and have kept me depressed until just recently. Well, saving everyone the details, one of those had a followup yesterday that was quite surprising and exciting. It was one of those surprises that leaves one with the feeling that there might be some justice in the world after all.

My husband retired last week. It was time. But two years ago he nearly had a breakdown. There was a management upheaval where he worked whereby he was demoted from a manager to a middle management person who, actually, wasn't even a management person, just a glorified clerk. This occurred because of several incidents involving this new boss reprimanding him for things like (1) not writing down notes in a management meeting), (2) misunderstanding verbal instructions,(3) using an online chat application to communicate with office personnel, various things that she thought were unprofessional and not to her liking. I cannot tell you who his employer was because of security reasons but it is a government agency which most of us have contact with on a monthly if not weekly basis. She also made it very clear that she was there to clean house and no one currently in a management position would be there by the end of her first year. She also stated openly in a management meeting that my husband would never work as a manager for that company again.

My husband is 86% deaf. He wears hearing aids in both ears. The reasons he did those things that he was criticized for were accomodations for his hearing loss. He explained this to his new boss. She made it very clear to him that he could not function as a manager under those conditions. Of course, he had been doing so with outstanding success for four years before she arrived.

Well, since that time, through the use of intimidation and discrimination, she has managed to bully her way into making the company run in tip top condition. My husband made his complaints to HR, saw an employee counselor, a therapist and kept his job because he was close to retirement. In spite of all of this, he was one of the most popular middle-management people there. His three retirement parties were testiment to that fact.

Yesterday, he got a phone call from the chief attorney in charge of corporate discrimination issues for his former employer informing that he is now their star witness in a suit against his old boss charging her with eight counts of illegal discrimination in the workplace. She will be terminated eventually and could be stripped of at least part of her retirement benefits in order to provide retribution to the employees who were wronged.

My husband is thrilled.

Wow, that is awesome! Its so rare that things like that actually work out for the one who was wronged! I'm so glad she will get what she deserved!!!!

Wow, that is such great news for the two of you. No so much for the former boss.

Hugs to him for having to go through all the bull poo.

Will he have to go to a trial as this chief witness?

Sounds like that person is getting some "on the job training" about discrimination. I'm glad to hear (no pun intended) there's some action being taken against her. No person should have to worry about their job security because of issues like that.

That's great news Vickie. It's seemsthis woman thought she was untouchable - what an ego. Happy your husband will fnally get retribution and she'll get what she deserves.

HOORAY!!! The ADA ought to testify.
My husband went through a similar thing 2 years ago. He found a new job and 90% of his employees went with him. Old company can't find a replacement even after 2 years.
So I share your cheers. GOOD TO HEAR

Wonderfull, Vickie! And you'd think, that they'd be thrilled up in government land that all us handicapped people are actually working and paying taxes. Sigh. Sadly, doesn't look that way. Even in Sweden. Please congratulate him for me! Huggs

Babysteps, has anyone every told you that sometimes you can be a pain? LOL

And, by the way, I think that word should have been restitution. Wow, it's been a long time since I taught school and I think that's a good thing!

You know what, Hippie, there were four positions like my husband's and that "witch" said they had no purpose for them! So after my husband gave his notice, one of them had already resigned to go to another job. Another guy who is about my husband's age asked my husband why he was leaving and he said he was 69 years old and wanted to live a little. That guy went home, talked to his wife, came in the next day and handed in his notice. So now, the witch is going to get to find out just how much water her theory will hold. She'll be down 3/4 of that team next week.

Babysteps, I sincerely apologize. I truly misinterpreted your comment. I you didn't diserve my response. I'm so sorry. I thought you were razzing me. Can you forgive me? I'm not in my right mind sometimes (not sure I have one left anymore.) Thanks for your support.

No problemo When you first stated that you wanted to make your post as short as possible I thought that was kind of you . I read it all and didn't think it was long at all .(Not that that would matter) . You mentioned that there was a lot more details and I was just interested in hearing them . My reply , Now for the long version ?????

wasn't meant as a sarcastic remark . I simply wanted to hear the whole story.
I can see now how that could be taken the wrong way . I still you . Sorry for the mixup. Hugs
