Why does psychcentral advertise various drugs? It seems the over advertising of drugs is already an issue in America. Why does this 'safe haven' have it's barriers down for drug companies? It irritates me a bit, I understand adverts here are hitting their target market, but for who's real benefit is it?

My understanding is that advertising helps pay for the site. It costs money to operate a site like psych central, and we all get to use it for free. Money from advertisers lets that happen. If we didn't have advertising we probably wouldn't have this great resource, or we might have to pay something to use it, which not everybody could afford.

Personally the advertising doesn't bother me. I just tend to ignore it, and it's not particularly intrusive.

Just me.

It's not I find it intrusive, or am overly bothered by it, I just find it a bit bizarre (from the ethos side, not the business side). Other companies would probably pay to advertise, just maybe not as much.

I don't notice much in the way of advertising, probably because I use Firefox with some add-ons that get rid of that stuff.

I haven't noticed any advertising; could it be because I mainly log onto the forums only?
Another board I sometimes visit has advertisements within threads! As soon a poster posts a new topic an advertisement is inserted right below the original thread. And it stays there. Responses can be viewed after viewing the advertisement. Now that's what I call heavy advertising. Every time I go to the home page on that forum it is inundated with at least twenty adverts.
I don't see any of it here on the forums. And love it this way.

That's another thing that applies to me--I only use the forums, mostly.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
