Just wanted to say, I got a letter yesterday for another interview with Public Housing. It's Public Housing ONLY. I'm not sure what the difference is between Public Housing and Section 8. Well, anyway, this time was so much faster than the last time. It's only been maybe 3-4 weeks since I mailed in the new application and the appointment is only 3 weeks away. Last time it took three months before the first appointment that I missed, because I was out of town and then two months later I received a second chance appointment. Well, now I just have to find a ride. Wish me luck everyone. The last time I did this it didn't work out. I hope this appointment goes much better than the last. I hope someday soon I can post to say, I got it, I got my own place, and I'm away from my father! My mom's coming to visit in April and she's hoping I'll have my own place by then so that she can help me get furniture and stuff. I hope it will all fall into place, but I can't expect it to go that fast.

Yay! That's great! Here in MS the difference between public housing and section 8 is that section 8 can be used on any house where the landlord will accept the section 8 program (meaning that section 8 will pay PART of the expenses of living in that home, like you may pay $300 and they pay $250 for a total rent of $550). Public housing will mean an actual public housing complex of some sort. Here there are groups of apartments and groups of duplexes. So it will probably be one or the other. If it is just you, it will likely be an apartment, because (at least here) the duplexes are reserved for families with children. And with public housing if you pay anything (if you have an income you will have to pay something, even if your income is SSD or SSI) it will be much lower than section 8, like $100 a month or something, oh an either way you will have to pay for your own utilities: phone, water, etc. Hope that helps explain it.

I have my fingers crossed for you.

It's just me and my 16 month old right now. Since my mom has been sending me some money here lately (about $100-$150 a month), I put that down as income, because I don't want to lie, even though it's not regular. The last appointment they told me if I didn't have income the rent would be $50 a month. The water is usually paid for in the apartments around here. I hope it's not going to be so much that I can't afford it. Either way, I need it.
