I don't pay a lot of attention to politics, but my husband does. He tells me that health care may actually pass. Keep in mind that all my info is second hand, so I'm not even sure if it's true. Even in my current insuranceless state, national health care scares me for several reasons.

1) How will it get paid for and how long will it take to bankrupt the country? I heard that we will all be forced to get the insurance and pay for it - whether we want it or not.
2) What kind of health care will actually be provided? Who gets to decide if a patient really NEEDS medical attention? I think this is especially important for mental health care, as I've run into many physicians that seem to think mental health problems are really just weakness.
3) It is already difficult to get a doctor's appointment because they are all booked. What happens when you add tons more people to the already overburdened system?

Anyway, what do you think about national health care?

If you look at how the government handles what it already has control over, I think you can see how national health care would be a very bad idea.

there are so many rumors, misinformation, and straw men surrounding this I can't even begin to make an opinion on the subject.

Just a thought, folks...this may want to be taken over to a social group so it doesn't get political...it is such a heated subject (which is why I won't post my thoughts here!).

Sorry to all...I didn't think when I posted. I suppose this is not really a light, social topic for conversation.

Just let me know where this discussion is continuing and I'll follow up on it.

I'm like you, English, I don't usually pay much attention to politics either, but I know I need to... I'd like to see where this discussion is headed.
