I had a therapist once who gave me the assignment of writing down 20 things that I liked about myself; ie.: things I did that I was proud of.(Oh no, I know I shouldn't have started a thread--no one will answer)stop it, they'll answer (to self)

I'll start: I like me when I can help others, and have no expectations
in return.

I like me when I tell a stupid joke without even knowing it, with a straight face and crack up a room of people.

I like me when I finish a complicated knitting pattern, when I thought I'd ne'er get it right.

I like I am less of a geezer on most days.

I like myself when I've finished a shift volunteering on the telephone support line.

I like my sense of humour.

I like that I can play the harp.

I like that I'm a good friend to my friends.

I like that I'm a good accountant and do my job well.

When I had a Girl Scout troop, we started each meeting with the girls having to say one thing they liked about themselves. The girls did fine, the leaders were the ones who had trouble with the exercise.

My contribution to this thread, I like me when I am able to help someone.

I like me when I am able to hold my criticism when someone annoys me.

I like me when I am able to save a kitten or a struggling plant.

I like me when I am able to like someone else.

I like me when I remember my father's words, never judge anyone until you walk a mile in their shoes.

Used to have tons of houseplants--I love them. I love animals---

I like the point about liking yourself because you are able to like someone else...
I have to work on myself--I am always finding flaws---Yes, I like me when I can shut my mouth and with hold criticism too---we've much in common!!!

I like me when I allow my youthful self to be expressed without concern of what other's think....(I do that a lot..lol).

I like me when I stand back from a mural I've painted on the walls of the elementary school and know how my creativity has pleased the little ones.

I like me when I can laugh when there's no humor to be found.

I like me when I put a smile on someone's face in passing just by offering one, myself.

(((((Shangrala)))))--that's so fantastic!!! I love to do that too--just be outrageously silly and not care what others think!--Isn't it fun? It takes so much of the burden of life off your shoulders (like census takers--lol)---You're an artist too, what a great thing to do as an outlet.

I realized after finishing reading all the responses, that I've been smiling the whole time while reading . As I got up to go to the kitchen to get some coffee, the smile stayed on my face!
As I read each person's thoughts, I was thinking, Ahh...and I like that person for their posts here!...already like them before reading the posts, which were so true to each person!...like friends we know and love for those very qualities. And Babysteps! Love you and your posts here!

Like the scout leader, it IS hard for me to come up with actual things I like about myself too!...
I like that I'm considerate of others, and really do practice the Golden Rule.
I like that I'm able to support myself financially and emotionally (most of the time, emotionally, eh).

That was the whole point of it. When I was originally given this as an assignment by my therapist all those years ago; I could not think of even one thing that I liked about myself--much less 20!!!

Then I realized, hey--yeah, there are some good things about me---like you; I thought of the Golden Rule, and that I like to practice it in all that I do......
