Are good support groups hard to find/ I think so. yes, there may be quite a few out there, but they are usually have a peer facilitator and just do discussion (not to mention the usual $5 donation required per group sessios as seems to be the norm). Hey, if I'm paying for this, then there better be some sort of educated or trained individual leading the group. The search is on...

^^^ you would think so wouldn't you?
I can't find any support groups near me but then maybe that comes of living in a country where the population is so spread out that unless you are in the 'big cities' there just doesn't seem to be the need for them. Good luck on your hunt Jessy |

once upon a time, back in Brooklyn (the borough of churches), you needed to look no further than your church--Mine was Episcopalian; but we had all denominations come to Youth Group, and Dances, and we used to just hang out at church---
We had Jewish kids, Catholic kids etc..and they didn't lock the doors back then--so churches were open 24 /7--I used to run to church at odd hours of the morning--just to sit and feel better...too bad they lock the doors now----------theo Last edited by Anonymous32463; Jun 07, 2010 at 08:49 PM. |

Check your local hospitals; they often have good ones that are more educational and led by medical personnel.

I second the recommendation to check out local hospitals, many of them have time limited group programs that are professionally run. The catch is you may need a Dr's referal and there can be long waiting lists. Also not sure what your insurance coverage is like.
You might also want to check out NAMI's web site. I think they have a search function for local support groups. I'm in Canada so NAMI doesn't apply to me, but when I was off work with depression and addiction I went to support groups organized by the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario. And they were pretty good. --splitimage |

NAMI may know of support groups in your area. http://www.nami.org/Template.cfm?Sec...iateFinder.cfm
