The other day I got an idea, that I might try and go a whole week eating nothing but fruit and veg. What do yall think? I don't know why I really want to do it, but I do want to see if I feel any different. I don't know if I'd even make it through an entire week, that's my big worry. I thought maybe if I just try one day at first, and if I think I can do it, try 3-5 days next time I get paid? I KNOW I'm going to get tempted, I'm going to do the whole 'well maybe if I just have ONE....' and then end up eating a large pizza with chocolate on the side. My other concern is the cost, fruit and veg isn't cheap you know. I was going to buy some blueberries the other day, until I saw they were $10 a punnet.
While I'm writing this, I might even make a poll (I love polls). Let me know what you think.

I think it's worth a try, if I could afford it I'd try it too.

I am no expert but that might be hard on your system. Fruit and veggies are hard to process on their own. At least for me. The fruit sugar alone can give me a buzz and the veggies can make me gasous. I would add some whole grains and nuts to your combo and maybe even some dairy like yogart and cottage cheese. Fish would round it out to a really healthy and balanced diet that you could sustain for life if your cravings didn't get the better of you.

I saw the pole after posting so I voted no because I don't think it is balanced enough even for a week but then again isn't that the basis of the California diet that was all the rage for a while so maybe there is something to it. Good luck.

I wouldn't necessarily try anything too all or nothing (just fruits and veggies) but try to look at what you eat now versus things you're rather eat? I eat at least 5 fruits and veggies (combined) a day, sometimes more than that. But, since I'm eating so many fruits and veggies, I don't have room for so much other stuff. I play with nutrition and calories too so there's only so much one can eat and stay within 1600 calories and get all the nutrition one needs as well; kind of forces out the junk. I would combine some things if I were you; for example women need 25-35 grams of fiber a day so I eat whole wheat raisin bread and that gets me fiber and a fruit :-) Or I put raisins in oatmeal or other cereal. But you need high nutrition (whole grain) carbs as well as protein and I don't think one can get enough of them from just fruits and veggies.

Not all fruits and veggies are expensive; I love carrots and apples and things which are in season/local are often less expensive. I love a good baked potato with the skin and only a teaspoon of butter (makes it a whole food as there's no vitamin A in potatoes but is in dairy) and lots of pepper. Keeps me filled, is high in fiber and Vitamin C and really inexpensive.

Eating only fruits is a good way to cleanse your system without fasting completely. My allergist insists on a fast of 3 days, a few times a year.

Make sure you eat plenty, meaning, don't be counting what you eat, if you need something, eat it and drink a glass of water with it. It will flush the toxins from your body, rest your digestive system and you WILL feel better once that's out of you.

If you decide to eat something other than --in addition to -- the fruit, eat it first. If you eat fruit last, you will have gas and other issues, as the other food takes longer to digest (if at all) and the fruit digests "behind" it and tries to move on through. Always eat fruit first.

Good wishes!

Hey, Evening,

Whatever the other posters say, a week on fruit and veg isn't going to hurt you. If you make that your permanent diet that's a different question. If the "veg" includes carbohydrates then you may well be able to get along. That sounds like a vegan diet to me, and many people do well on that. To get more reliable information, you ought to go to several vegan websites and see what they have to say, as well as straight nutritional websites that may or may not comment on vegan diets. If you add eggs you're still in better shape. But it's a very personal matter about which opinions differ severely and you're going to have to make your mind up based on your own experience. Whatever you decide, there will always be people who agree with you and disagree with you.

Take care.

I should also point out that I am a vegetarian (for 10 years). But I am not the healthiest vegetarian around. I did think that if I just went a few days on this (as JD said) it could be a good way to clear things out. I think it would be a lot more balanced than what I'm already eating for sure, and afterwards I might get the motivation to eat a lot healthier afterwards. I have tried eating healthy before but I failed miserably because I don't have much money, about $100 a week for everything that I need. I tend to go through food rather quickly.

sounds like a good idea, drinks loads of water for the full detox effect, and just eat green veg stuff (Tony Robbins alkilizeing diet) will be really hard aswell as the cravings will hit, everdy day food is designed to be addictive, probably why it tastes so good.

Oh and stay within dashing distance of a latrine (keep a safe distance to a toilet)

You still need protein so you would have to include fish, meat, cheese or eggs for that. All things in good balance is my motto.

Oh, I just read that you're a vegetarian. Either way, try and include protein in your diet.

I'm a vegetarian as well and can relate to the 'not the healthiest vegetarian around" clause too. I enjoy eating healthy but time is so constrained right now. Ah well, no, fruit and veggies alone shouldn't be a problem. I have done so for a month at a time with no problems, no weight loss, no jitters.

I saw this article a few days ago and googled for it for you, I hope you find it useful: http://www.thedailygreen.com/living-...hy-food-460610

It's entitled,
50 Healthy Foods for Under $1 a Pound

These cheap healthy meals prove eating well doesn't have to cost a fortune.

Most are fruits and veggies. I will say that you need to really watch fruit and veggie prices because they can change drastically from day to day. Blackberries were $4.99 a pint yesterday and today they were 10 for $10. Pre-cut salad bags (which I don't recommend but like I said, really pressed for time lately) were $3.99 on Thursday and a one day sale of Friday I got them at .99.
