I made a thread a while ago that my mamma was going to buy me a viola, but then it had been so long that it looked like it wasn't going to happen, and being really down lately I don't have much enthusiasm as I used to so I told her not to worry about it.
Well I got a message yesterday from her than she has been saving up for a while and has $450, so we can go look for a viola. I'm still not jumping around the place (I have literally lost all my enthusiasm for anything that used to interest me), but I'm still pretty stoked. It will give me something to do, and playing music is meant to be good for the mind.
So either today or tomorrow, I should have a brand new viola!

P.S. I accidentally posted this same thread in the Technical Support forum because I thought I was in Social Chat (it's 5am, what do you expect?), so just, um, ignore that...

Okay so I went and bought my new VIOLIN today, I didn't get a viola, I figured I'd save, oh I don't know, $150. I got the violin, a chin support, electronic tuner, and music book for $288. B-A-R-G-A-I-N.

PC, I'd like you to meet Sven-

I finally got my viola

Sven comes in a brown case, as opposed to the usual blue, green or red, so I'm pretty stoked, as brown happens to be my favourite colour (yes you can look at me weird for that, but it is a very underrated colour). When I saw it and told the guy serving me he said he was glad because he was worried I wouldn't like it at all.

I haven't really played yet though, I feel kind of silly. You know when you feel like even though there's nobody around, there must be somebody in the room watching you make a complete *** of yourself?
I don't remember ANYTHING, it's been 10 years. I mean I could waywardly play Jingle Bell Rock or Mary Had A little Lamb, but I don't even remember the name of the strings. And the strings sound so, they are like deja vu, it kind of freaked me out a little because the last time I had a violin in my hand was before things started happening. And holding it feels kind of awkward, I remember it being so much bigger (of course I was a little tacker back then).

Oh well, maybe one day I'll catch up to my old William Tell Overture days...

I think it is awesome that you can play the violin. I have always wanted to learn the fiddle but I don't know if I ever will. Maybe when I'm old and retired.
I played the trombone for years and even in college but I haven't touched it in years. I was pretty darn good too. I used to love to play. Makes me wonder how much practice it would take to get back to where I used to be.
My brother is storing my old piano for me until I move home and get a place for it. I haven't touched the piano since I was about 10, so it really will be hard to remember, but I think I can do it. I would love to sit around all day and play music. I love music so much!

OMG, I'm practically drooling over that picture (lol). I miss my violin so much. It was stolen a few years ago, and it was my most prized possession. I used to love playing, and sometimes I feel the urge to do just that. Anywho, enjoy your new violin

Hi There Sven! lol

Evening, go ahead and play!

Goodness, where do you think the term "air guitar" came from???? People making themselves look silly while having a great time! I tend to crank the music sky high and grab my guitar (which my hands won't let me play any more) and I strum and strum even though nowhere near tune or on key! But it still sounds good (with the music on loud.)

The only way you learn to play is to practice ... and that includes many straining notes.

Yeah that's exactly what happened to my old violin too. Well actually, I'm not 100% sure what happened to it, I was living with my aunty when it happened. But I was still devastated nevertheless. I think my mamma was trying to make up for what happened by getting me this one.
Can you afford a new one?

Yeah I love music too, I'm always cranking it up or have my headphones on loud (not good I know!), I have a lot of classical and any violins always made me wish I could start playing again.
I was reading the book yesterday and having a go on my violin, and I actually remember a LOT more than I realised. I still sound a bit blah, and I'm still remembering how to read the music (which is actually the hardest part of learning to play), but once I've got that sorted out, I'ma be right back where I used to be. I can't wait until I can play super awesome, and one thing I've always wanted to be able to do but still can't, is have vibrato. I remember my teacher trying to explain how to do it, but dammit, it's just impossible!
