Hi,
I went on Facebook today and saw that the Weather Channel had posted something about the Aurora Borealis (sp?) being visible late tonight in parts of the northern states, including Michigan I've always been interested in stuff like this and have wanted to see them for myself for the past few years - hoping tonight I'll have my chance. I don't know how long I'll stay outside, I'm figuring I'll camp out on the back patio. This would be the perfect birthday gift! Wish me luck in seeing the light show

Cool...I would like to see them too. Since I live in a fairly close region to you, maybe I'll see them too. I think it helps if you're away from city lights. I usually take my dog out late so I'll check then. Thanks for the notice Indie.

Oh yes! on Sunday, August 1 on the Earth-facing side of the sun, there was a coronal mass ejection, a solar flare, solar tsunami, many filaments, and much more solar activity. the coronal mass ejection reached Earth yesterday; that's what's causing the aurora to appear so far south. it's so exciting! there's more information about it here: http://spaceweather.com/archive.php?...2010&view=view

I didn't see anything I'm assuming you had to be in the U.P to see them - it would have been so cool.

Yeah I saw that picture on Twitpic. Wouldn't that be amazing to see in your own backyard?

memories...I recall seeing them from my backyard ~7 yrs ago. I could never photo them, but i seen it with my own eyes. There is something magical about seeing them blowing through the sky. It looked like a flapping light/dark pink curtain. I got it written down in my personal journal.
