Just saw a post on political forum asking why aid workers would go to Afghanistan.
My husband grew up with Tom Little. Before anyone dumps on docs going overseas they need to know that person. They need to know that some people, from a young age, feel compelled to do something we may not agree with or understand. It's their choice. Tom wanted to work with people in an underprivileged country since he was a kid. It was just something he felt a need to do. Yes, these workers could have chosen the Ship Hope, Doctors Without Borders, the PeaceCorp. etc. If they had chosen one of those organizations would people have felt their lives were worth more? Did you ever stop to think that you go where you can get funding for the medical supplies you need? For transportation you need? For where the most good can be done? It is a terrible, terrible thing to see these good people murdered. It just adds to the tragedy to see posted ignorance condeming what these people tried to do. God it's small minded to criticize. |

Hippie,
Are you not criticising those who criticise?

Hippie
Again, I apologize for upsetting you. I was NOT condemning what they do. I just don't understand why the needs of underprivileged children overseas are more important than the lives of underprivileged children here in the States. Considering we've been involved in a war for the last 9 years over there, I don't understand why someone would give up their lives here to live and work on that battlefield. It would be like setting up camp in North Vietnam during the Vietnam War, North Korea during the Korean War, or Germany/Japan during WWII. It seems to me it would have made it that much harder for the troops to conduct their missions. It hurts to hear stories of innocent Americans killed overseas. I've heard far too many of them over the years, and I don't want to hear any more. I'm already losing sleep worrying about our troops over there. My condolences on your loss. |
