Ugh, I feel terrible about missing work today. It was entirely my own fault.

I stayed up late last night and I woke up with only 5 mins to spare today before I had to go to work. I took my Prozac on an empty stomach and that was as really bad idea.

On my way to work I got really bad heartburn and felt nauseous. I called work to say I couldn't take it in to work. I didn't have any heartburn medicine with me and it was going to be torture for 7 hours at work without it.

I have to get a medical note now. I went to the clinic I usually go to only to find out they don't take walk-ins anymore. So then I had to go to another clinic. Thankfully I was able to get an appointment with my doctor this afternoon.

It's such a stupid reason to miss work. I just needed some heartburn medicine. Now I need to go to the doctor just to get a note.

I feel really guilty about missing work today because I'm still on probation at my new job. It just looks really bad to miss work my second week of work. I hope I don't get into trouble. I don't want them to think I am unreliable.

This heartburn was totally my fault because I didn't have time to eat breakfast before taking my Prozac. Taking it on an empty stomach gives me heartburn sometimes.

Argh, heartburn is such a stupid reason to miss work! I just needed some heartburn medicine and now I need a medical note just for stupid heartburn.

Could you have stopped by a drug store on your way to work & picked up some of the "over the counter (OTC)" anti-nausea stuff like that pink stuff (ah yes, pepto bismo), or it comes in tablet form......there are other things....think that prilosec is even offered OTC. Some of those work well to settle the stomach if it's feeling bad after taking a med on an empty stomach. I actually have nausea medication from when my stress was causing anorexia......I would get so sick feeling I couldn't eat anything....so had the anti-nausea medication they provide cancer patients....it worked ok, but nothing really stopped that sick feeling from stress for me.

Hope you get to feeling better. Much better to eat than to have to take something for the nausea, but I understand....I am aways running late & not having time to eat (especially breakfast).

Be well

To those that have never experience debilitating heartburn it may seem like a "stupid" reason. Back in the days when I was in denial about how much I needed Nexium, I made many side trips to buy the OTC Zantac or Pepcide. It was enough to make it... tolerable. A suggestion: Keep a few pills everywhere! I have some in my car, in my jacket (I don't carry a purse), in the cabinet at work, and several bottles all around the house.

If you prefer not to add medication there are also natural alternatives. There are also these wonderful things called papaya enzymes. Kills heartburn almost instantly and tastes like candy. Even better they have no drug interactions. Ginger root works too to tame an upset tummy. You can generally get it candied at the grocery store.

Greenleaves, I struggled for years to get my heartburn under control. I tried everything over the counter I could get. My doctor told me it was probably GERD and anxiety. He prescribed a med for me and it knocks out my heartburn. I have insurance so it's cheaper for the doctor to prescribe me meds than to buy the over the counter meds. Don't be too hard on yourself about missing work--you were sick and needed the time off.

Thanks everyone. I ended up skipping my Prozac today because I was afraid of heartburn again. I didn't have time to eat breakfast. I went to work today and everything was fine with the medical note I got so I feel better about it now.

I'm going to switch to working evenings. I'm just not a morning person.

I'll make sure I keep a few Pepcid with me from now on.

it's not a 'stupid' reason to miss work.....you probally would have been miserable all day if you went in.
Can u keep a Prozac at work, so if you miss breakfast, you can take it later on with your lunch?

That's not a bad reason to miss work if you were unable to do your best. Is it possible to grab something quick on your way out to put something in your stomach?
