My friends Anne Louise & Ellen always throw a big dinner for US thanksgiving every year. Ellen's American. But because the Thurs adn Fri. aren't holidays up here, they always do it on the first Sat. after US Thanksgiving. Ellen is the best cook I've ever met, and she believes in seriously feeding people. I really blew my diet tonight but it was worth it.
She cooked two turkeys - one brined in cranberry juice and smoked, and one roasted the traditional way in the oven. Dressing with chicken sausage in. Butternut squash casserole, Mashed potatoes with roasted garlic and cheese in them, and a green been casserole. For desert there was pumpkin pie and chocolate mint brownies. And the best part is I got a doggy bag of leftovers to bring home for supper tomorrow. It was also a super fun party. I can't wait for Christmas, as I'm spending Christmas Day with the same friends. --splitimage |

Here's the deal: American Thanksgiving is the beginning of the seaon of over indulgence. If you did not eat too much got Thanksgiving you would be doing it wrong. I tend to over indulge then moderate myself for about 3 weeks before all the Christmas stuff hits. I cook for an army so there is always an abundance of food. Maybe it is an American thing
Sounds like you had a great time. |

An old throw back to the days when you had to get rid of the exess cattle, poultry and hogs to make sure you could feed the rest through winter, and ate what wouldn't keep from the harvest. There are old stories from viking times of folks eating themselves to death at Yule tide. If that's not overconsumption, hard to think what is Maybe it's a behavior that's spurred by the lack of sunlight, eh?

Sounds like it was fun! I'm glad someone had a good time... Around my family, I wash dishes from cooking, then from the eating all night. It's a great way to not have to watch football!
