Whenever it gets really cold I cannot open the doors on my Audi. I thought it was because it was locked but even leaving it unlocked it still won't open. My son tried a hairdryer tonight but couldn't get the doors open.

My garage door is not working so I cannot put the car in the garage until I get that fixed and right now there is no money to hire anyone.

So is there a spray I can use to prevent this or some way I can convince my car to let me in? It is not a big deal usually but if my son or I have a doctor/dentist appt it is bad.

HELP!

Hi. Yes there is a deicer in a spray form. Have you tried warming your key with a lighter? Also there's a chance that water only gets into that one lock...try the other doors?
Be sure to not keep the deicer in your car, unless you have no trouble with the trunk lock.

It isn't locked so it isn't the key. The driver side won't budge but the passenger side slightly opens at top of door but not towards bottom.

LOL about keeping the deicer inside car!

Yoda, I am sorry I do not have an answer. But I just googled to find out there are Audi Car forums. I bet someone there will recognize whats going on and might suggest how to manage it during the cold months. Thats the best suggestion I can come up with. Good luck with this, Yoda.

I bought a car cover on ebay. Some of the people on the Audi forums (thank you, sunsetsunrise) said that somehow ice buildup was getting in and freezing their doors shut. And some others suggest lubrication of rubber door seals and on the door gasket.

So what in the heck is a door gasket? I'm a nurse, not a mechanic. Help me out, folks.

Yoda, if it were me, I would ask them at the Audi forum. Sometimes people can find really helpful folks on forums. You may want to make sure to tell them that you are strapped for money and know almost nothing about cars. While you know nothing about fuel injection, you are pretty good at giving injections . I bet if you keep asking and letting them know your situation, someone will take an interest in helping. Often thats why they are there. They want to help. Just a thought.

I got great help from people on "AOL helping hands" forum. Someone actually helped me on the phone to download and reinstall all programs and software after I unexpectedly reformatted my computer. Its what she enjoyed doing. So she hung out there to help. And she was not the only one. So, maybe you can try turning more to the folks on the Audi forum to get things squared away with the car, if it feels right to do that?

I have had that problem for years. Some cars are worse than others. I use a silicone spray to lubricate the rubber seal around the door. It is freezing to the car door frame. I spray an old sock and rub it over the entire rubber strip around the door. Make sure you get all areas of the strip. I do this about once a month during winter.
I have broken the door handles off a car trying to get the door open because of this. A mechanic at a car lot showed me the silicone spray trick. If your door is already frozen shut you can spray some windshield de-icer around the edge of the door to try to defreeze the weatherstrip. The rubber seal around the door is also called the weatherstrip and door gasket. It seals around the edge of the door to keep water out.
Try the silicone spray, it is available in the auto department of most stores.

silicone spray is also known as WD40 ,, and another brand,, ArmourAll,, both are rubber sealants which reduce or prevent sticking. also, you might want to get a can of Graphite (with the little straw) to spray inside your key hole,, to prevent ice buildup in there, too. good luck,, Gus

Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) works. Just put it on the rubber strip around the door opening.

Vaseline would work in the short term but petroleum products (hydrocarbons) can damage rubber. That is why you should not use vaseline with condoms.
