So I think I missed up big on my taxes. I do them online and you know how they log you out after inactivity? Well that happened. And so I signed on (having put my W2s in) and filed it.

Well then I used my federal return to fill out my state returns and this year I have 2 part-year resident forms. As I'm filling it out I thought something was funny but I owed Illinois money and got back money from Arkansas which seemed right.

So I sent them. Then I realized.....when it logged me out it only saved 1 of my W2s. I realize this is 100% my fault because I should have double checked. But now I'm freaking out that I will get audited.

Total I still made less than 15,000 so I don't know if they will even care? But I'm terrified that I will receive some letter telling me that I lied or something and end up having to pay out the wazoo.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I would go through and amend, which I have done before, but my federal was already accepted and I already received my refund.

I checked both states and neither say they have my info in yet. What should I do? I don't even want to think about the process that goes along with amending and not to mention I definitely do not have the money because I'm pretty sure in situations like this I would probably have to pay a lot.

Should I wait it out? I am FREAKING out!!

You can always call the IRS and explain to them what happened. Also a friend of mine who's a CPA said that was the best option any time you make a mistake filing your own taxes. The sooner you fix it the better.

Also, they can only fine you part of what you owe so if you don't owe anything they can't fine you anything.

You may want to look at the site where you filed your taxes to see if they have the information there for you in case of a mistake and needing to amend. It may be easier than you think by going through their site.

Good luck hon!
