Anyway, what makes me mad is my parents who yell at each-other from other rooms.
Thanks for this!

I hate it when a morbidly obese person tells me smoking is bad for my health. I always wanna be like "really? how is your many health problems stemming from being overweight working out for you? because I can still do physical activity without running out of breath". No offense to any overweight people on this site. I just think it's hilarious when people who obviously have their own issues with addiction telling me how to live my life.

Understood, saluki. I'm overweight and have similar feelings when lectured by a smoker, drinker, or drug user. I think both of us can understand the other's pov, because it's basically the same.

Grrr at unfounded Islamophobia. At people who think video from Youtube is a reliable source. At societies that need an enemy in order not turn on themselves...

...at the world in general.

Love this thread!

My grrrr at the moment is people who treat folks who work in restaurants or stores poorly. Even a small amount of courtesy or compassion means a lot to those who work on their feet all day (or night) long and have to deal with the general public.
Thanks for this!

Thursday 10 April 2003 was the 225th anniversary of the birth of the essayist William Hazlitt (a date commemorated by the unveiling of his restored memorial in St Anne’s churchyard, Soho). This week’s Weird Word is one he is first recorded as using.

He did so in a famous letter of 1819 to William Gifford, the editor of the Quarterly Review, a letter which has been described as “one of the finest works of invective in the language”. In one of his more moderate castigations, Hazlitt wrote: “You have been well called an Ultra-Crepidarian critic”. What Hazlitt thought of Gifford’s journal may be deduced from this passage in The Spirit of the Age (1825):
His Journal, then, is a depository for every species of political sophistry and personal calumny. There is no abuse or corruption that does not there find a Jesuitical palliation or a bare-faced vindication. There we meet the slime of hypocrisy, the varnish of courts, the cant of pedantry, the cobwebs of the law, the iron hand of power. Its object is as mischievous as the means by which it is pursued are odious.
Ultracrepidarians are a grrr.

my latest grrrrrrrrr

Had the portable heater on in bathroom and then turned on microwave. Overloaded the circuits so I lost power to the one outlet that worked in the bathroom and two outlets in the kitchen and microwave. Son's room has had no power for several years so he was powering computer/fan/small light in his room on extension cord to one of the kitchen outlets that died.

Turned microwave and heater off but when I flipped the breaker on it kept flipping off again so I am thinking perhaps there was a surge that fried some wire or something.

I have no extra money for an electrician but we are to the point I pretty much have to hire one as I have no insurance on the house and it isn't getting better by itself. I'll try to sell a few more model horses and see what happens.

Bummer.

Even worse, when they gaslight me on top of that. "Well, maybe you just don't *remember* saying it.... are you current on your meds?" Nice try, but memory lapses are not among my symptoms.

Have you perhaps just blown a fuse in the fuse box? That happened to me recently, one of my lamps just blew (but more like a total BANG) and all the power sockets in my living room and bedroom blew, but the points in the kitchen and all the light switches still worked. I got in a panic but it was just a wire in the fuse box that blew. I got my land agent to call an electrician, and then when my grandfather said he could have done it, my land agent carried on that I wasted her money getting an electrician out for it. Well she needs to toughen the ... up.
So anyway, if that's all it is, it's easily fixed.
Thanks for this!

No fuses anymore, evening, my BF converted the box to breakers. So instead of having to buy replacement fuses the breaker just flips on and off.

We have a short somewhere and we have not had electric in my son's room for several years and then last year lost the power to the bathroom except one electrical outlet. So my son has everything in his room on extension cords.

No matter how hard I tried to flip it on it wouldn't go back but today I was chatting with my organizer and she said try to force it all the way off before I flip it on. She said she was without power to her kitchen for a week once before she discovered that and it worked for me too. I just had to shove it really hard all the way off. So I won't run the microwave and bathroom heater simultaneously anymore.

Grrrrr at my school. Out of three methodology class we had one (and it was pointless). we have to write a paper for next week thursday, yet no instruction yet.

ANd i am asking... we are supposed to be paying for THAT soon. will we get refund for each class that does not happen? Or will it be the same "3 books in library that are mandatory literature for class of 70, sitting on the ground because class is too small, no plugs for our laptops, classes not happening because prof is in Jordan pretending to do something academic..." with a fee? I tell you, nothing is gonna change.

I am pondering if "Faith… is the art of holding on to things your reason once accepted, despite your changing moods," as C. S. Lewis tells us.
