This story says that Social Security checks would go out even if the federal government shuts down. That is because the money comes out of the Social Security trust fund, not the federal budget:

Given that the government has borrowed all the money out of the trust fund, its all non-existant money either way. Basically doesn't make a difference.

Well, the possible government shutdown has affected me: I had an all-day Smithsonian Bach seminar scheduled for Saturday, but it has been postponed, due to the possible shutdown.

what is really bad too is that the military that are fighting for our country may not get a paycheck. really stinks!

I was a gov't employee in the past when this happened and I got furloughed for a few days. I didn't really like not getting paid for 4 days one month.
But I'm glad RSDI wont be affected...my MiL sure needs hers. |
