As this excerpt from history declares, the familiar story about the heroism at the Alamo has a background not often told. Mexico was slave free. Being slave free clashed with the desires of the Americans who settled in the area.

My boyfriend and I were just commenting about this the other day. We have a less-than-popular opinion that Texas was stolen from Mexico through the same brute force with which almost the entire country was stolen from the Native Americans...and we still use that force today. Rome eventually fell...and it would seem the US Empire might meet the same end (history does repeat itself).

Sorry, I just realized that I wrote "Rome" rather than "Ancient Rome/the Roman Empire"...You probably know what I was talking about anyway. :-/ Blah.

More than a little ironic when you consider debt peonage, land confiscation, and the other reasons for the Mexican Revolution of 1910
