I am seeing my dermatologist for the second time on Wednesday, I had my blood test done last week to try and find a cause for my hair loss. And now that I'm getting closer to finding out what's going on (I've always ruled it as severe stress), I am starting to realise just how scared about it I actually am. If nothing was found in my blood test, I will need a biopsy, i.e. removing a piece of my head to send off to the lab. I was nearly in tears during my blood test, even with the anesthetic so I could literally not feel a thing, so a biopsy is something I can't comprehend. I find that doctors tend to laugh or mock whenever I show any disdain for needles, so this will really take the cake.
And what if I can't treat it? Or what if I can't afford to treat it, or the treatment doesn't work?
I've already lost close to half my hair over the years, Though I can still get away with it looking natural (being curly is a huge benefit), it's definitely not what it once was.

Gah why me?

I'm really sorry to hear about this. Keep us posted, and I hope it turns out to be a minor/treatable issue. Perhaps you could benefit from some anti anxiety medication before going, if you end up having to get the biopsy.
Thanks for this!

I'm really hoping something in my blood test was found (that is treatable!) so that I don't need the biopsy. I don't know how much more hair loss I can take, last night while I was eating dinner I found 5 strands of hair in my food. I get a little compulsive sometimes, and because my hair comes out really easy I'm getting into the habit of constantly pulling strands out. I have looking into changing my diet, my therapist was telling me to try eating a few things to help with stress, tomorrow I'll talk with the dermatologist to see if that might help it grow back along with any treatment.
The issue is that if nothing was found in my blood test it's still going to be weeks before I find an answer to the problem.
Thanks for this!

Well, just as I dreaded, nothing was wrong in my blood test. The first time in my life where hearing I'm normal was the last thing I wanted to hear. He didn't do the biopsy because he is adamant that my hair loss is Telogen Effluvium caused by severe stress, and the only way for me to treat it is to treat my stress. After 23 years that's not going to be easy at all. So, my hair will just keep falling out.
